First the Hondos, but that's ok, not much work to do there. Some of the Balls didn't lay that I though were going to, cool with that. Check the incubator, and here's 47 new Jungles squirming around!! WTF? Its already 8:00pm and I'm dead tired! And the only reason I'm posting here is because I'm too lazy and I'm procastinating about going to the reptile room to deal with it!! LOL! New motto: Be prepared, even if you don't think you need to be! LOL!!
Day 52 for the big (26 babies) clutch and Day 51 for the smaller (21 babies) clutch. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

Cool Jeff.
Nice pictures. Are you using perlite on one, and verm on the other? If so, have you found one better than the other?
And is that glass covering the rubbermaids? How many holes in the rubbermaids? Are the rubbermaids in a water incuibator with aquarium heater? Is this what you do for the balls also? Do I ask too many questions?

Perlite on one yes, and vermiculite on the other, yes. No difference. Its the no-substrate method, so it doesn't really matter. I used just plain water on another one and wet newspaper on another, just for fun. It doesn't matter.
Glass covering the Rubbermaid, yes. This is so I don't have to open a lid and have all the cool, dry air rush in. How many holes? Beats me. Some have 10 some have 20, some only have 5. I don't find too much difference. I think that 10 or so could be the "ideal". That's what I tell people.
ALL the pythons I have are/will be incubated this way. People incubate Chondros this way as well.
Water incubator with a heater on a helix. That's it. Piece of cake! Hatched over 110 eggs with it this year with over 150 to go!!
Thanks all! And thanks for the good questions Ryan! I hope I answered them. I love this method of incubating. I would never go back to the "other" methods!
Cheers!

Thanks for the great answer Jeff! I didn't want to side track the thread from 47 JCP babies (that part just hit me actually) - but I wanted to ask you a few questions about incubation anyways, and your pictures gave me the chance to do that. My next python eggs will be set up that way too.
110 python eggs this year already?!? When is your book coming out, hehe.

No, no worries Ryan. I find that the side-tracked conversations are way more fun than the original thread's purpose! Ha ha. Hopefully people can also learn from it, bit more importantly, share their experiences so WE can learn. It can't always be give, give give, right? Its nice for us to get some pics and feedback and experience to digest sometimes!
Cheers.
Jeff , I think i'm gonna send a petition to the government to put your face on the canadian dollard coin on one face and a carpet on the other:cool:...King Favelle

That's crazy Jeff! Makes we wish I had moved out the balls and went with Jungles. Oh well, I'm commited now. Maybe next year when the new snake room is done it will be jungle time.
Cheers,
Trevor

And more due to hatch in 2 weeks! Jen its going to be nuts. But this is the year I get to replace 50-100% of my breeding population. I'm pumped, because I wanted the largest pool of animals to choose from. I can't wait! The part that's going to suck is the transition where I've still got 15 adults and then another 10 yearlings/ 2-year olds. That's going to eat up a lot of room/rats!!! LOL!

What will those little guys be going for? How about a pair? What would that be?

The go for anywhere from $350 to $600 for a pair Don. That's Canadian though. You should be able to get a good solid pair from a nice bloodline in the US for about $350US. For sure.
Ha ha Jar, its crazy no doubt. Thank god I didn't do the Boas (Dums, Hogs, and Bci) this year. I would have gone mental (er.......MORE mental).
Cheers. :D

Wow Jeff. Congratulations! I love this time of year! Hopefully in a couple years I'll be settled down enough to think about breeding. Gotta figure out what I'd do with the babies before that though. :)
Did any of those little guys nip you?

05-18-04, 10:14 AM
Nah, they don't bite until a while out of the egg. They are quite mellow after hatching. It takes a lot out of them.

Ha ha Simon. I am a FIRM believer that the LESS we screw around with and annoy, bother, pester our snakes, the BETTER they do!
For sure.
