View Full Version : Rosy Rat (aka Upper Keys Corn) *pic*
Here's a not to often seen cornsnake. I purchased this li'l guy off of Jordan (JD@Reptiles) and I am most pleased with him. Rosy corns/Upper Keys are a bit different from your average corn. They have a smaller adult size, this li'l guy is real small, have a distinct colouration, somewhat miamish in that the background colour is grey (the body pic doesn't show the blotch colour just right). And they have near patternless bellies as well as a slightly different head shape. In the top pic however, the li'l guy is flattening out his head. Upper Keys are said to be very docile and I will agree, this guy only showed fiestiness to a mouse I tried to feed him.
Anyway, here's the pics!!

Check out the belly!

A very interesting and beautiful snake. I'd love to find a female. Anyone else got one of these???

Nice looking snake, Katt! :)
Sometimes it makes you wonder why corns have almost a total monopoly as far as ratsnakes go in North America. There are soooo many other options for size and color and all that. Hopefully we'll get to see some more variety in the years to come. :)
Katt,
Yup these upper keys are definately something. As hatchlings they have pure plain belly patterns. In fact they are quite different from regular corns. In my own opinion, I think that they're going to be classified as different species than the corns. As their diet as a hatchling is quite different...most of them would prefer lizards more than mouse. But once you get them switched to mouse there is not much of a problem with them.
This year I am trying to breed my bloodred into this line of 'corns' just to try it out and see what happens. I am also trying to breed the silver queen to the upper keys too. I want to see if I am able to 'change' then and get them started on pinkies right from the start. Last year I had 15 hatchlings for sale but no one was interested.....lol...I guess not a lot of people realize how special these little ones actually are..
you have a great looking upper keys there~~
Whoa Simon, I had no idea you had these guys!! I'd really like to get a female, a pure key's would be prefered. Maybe I can convince some people to split an order with me.

Katt, if you don't quit posting pics of all your awesome snakes I might have to come over to Sask and take a few. Especially the mexican black. :D
Nah, just kidding. Keep em coming! You have an awesome collection! :)

Katt,
Yup I had pure upper keys at my place for sale for $55 dollars but no one wanted any....so I whole saled the lot to a person in the states...
hopefully this year I'll be able to get a few more batches. The 1.4 that I have right now are all adults. Proven too. One female is about to lay too. Last year I had 2.4 of them but one of the males died so I only have 1.4 left.
If you really do want a female...maybe I can spare an adult to you.
Let me know~~

They are a lovely variety of corn - agree with Simon - a lot seems to indicate they may be a distinct subspecies. You have a very pretty male - good luck pairing him up if you decide to breed - unfortunately there seems to be a lack of interest in the more subdued colors - everyone wants more drama.
