Well, after taking my BRB out tonight freshly shed (and hungry!) she did everything to get away from me. She even turned back and nailed me! It didn't hurt but did suprise me, as it was my first snake bite! I will post the pics soon, just need to find the link cable for my camera!

Heres a pic of the bite, nothing bad, but it did draw blood... although it did not feel that it should, sharp teeth!

Definitely makes me realize that its not as scary as I imagined, and that's from my largest snake, a five footer!

Great pics!
I still remember my first bite. It was from a big cranky w/c yellow ratsnake that I was trying to soak in the sink in the backroom of a pet store I worked at back in 1994. I got as far as the sink when I felt couple of strange pains on my forearm and I realized she had bit on and wrapped my arm up and happily chewed away. Lucky for me she didn't like what she was munchin' on and let go. LOL! It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would but gave me a new appreciation for how many teeth snakes have. I bet there are alot of members on this forum who remember their first bite....
Take care,
Ryan

Exactly Jeff!

I expected more, I shouldn't talk, she'll probably take my hand now one day! Only two of the spots where the teeth hit bled...

I didn't even really jump though, it took a second to realize what happened!

Oh, me too Jeff. I know better than anyone that bites are not that bad... but try convincing my spider-like reflexes of that! LOL

My first tag was a full grown king snake. He bit and held on for a couple of seconds. Very nasty. I've also had a Taiwan beauty leave a tooth emebedded in my knuckle. THAT was memorable, I tells ya.

I was watching this guy on speakers corner put his Boa's in his mouth and i thought it was kool so just for the hell of it i tried with my male adult corn to see if he'd go in, I guess he saw me in the corner of his eye and got freaked out and thought i was going to eat him so he striked at my lip aand chewed a bit, a lesson learned no to be an idiot!

Right on Jeff. :) Last night after 6 beers I was feeling brave, so I took my Haitian boas out, FULLY expecting to get nailed a few times... and wouldn't ya know it, they were placid as a corn. :D

I've taken to gardening gloves. As Unky Roy put it, it prevents accidental snake launchings across rooms. :)

A few years back i got bit by a fairly small (maybe not quite 2 ft) and very hungry black king. It got my middle finger.

After a few seconds of confusion from the 'lil critter it obviously decided it liked its chances and started to try and swallow said finger.

I don't know who was more suprised...the king when it realised that the "pinky" it had caught was maybe (juuust maybe ;) ) a bit on the big side or me when i noticed it "walking" down my finger!

LOL.

Why do you think that he's lying? I've heard of kings trying to eat fingers before... they are usually voracous eaters.

My first bite was painful. It was a sub adult emerald. Boy did that hurt! They have some nice teeth and she held on for 10 seconds and moved her head around.
That's when i first really had respect for snakes.

i guess it was just the way he said it... the snake actually had the time to carefully position itself and to start swallowing the finger when suddenly, "OMG! it's eating my pinkie!"... just the way i pictured it though, i guess it is possible...

If was going to lie i would have dressed it up a bit more...having a small kingsnake trying its luck is not paricularly impressive.

Perhaps i should have said it was a 21ft retic! LOL.

Anyway, it bit me. Didn't really hurt and i assumed it would let go. Then i watched as it began to line up my finger for swallowing and again i assumed that it would notice its mistake and let go.

It didn't:)

And i should mention that the snake concerned wasn't mine, so i didn't feel that i could just yank the thing off...i was basically being overcautious.

It tought me an important lesson...never underestimate a hungry kingsnake.:D
