For my guy i have 2 bulbs on him (just for heat) One sits about 12 inches or more from the cage and it's a 150 ceramic bulb that stays on 24/7 (just used to up the temps in the unused shower). Then he has one that sits about 3 inches from the cage that is a 75 watt, it gives him about a 92-95 basking spot.
Everybody may use different wattages but the main thing is to get the temps where they need to be no matter what wattage or how close or far away the light is from the cage. I suggest to get a digital themometer so you know what the temps are exactly.
They type of bulbs you can get normal household bulbs or special reptile bulbs as long as they put out enough heat to acheive the temps you need.

ya, it depends on wut your room temperture is, if you have a hot house dont for high wattages, you might cook them, so check out what tempertures you have around the chameleons cage

The 'best lamp' is relative to each individuals situation, cage size, type of cage and the like. What type of enclosure is your chameleon in, and what size is it? Keep in mind that you need both a heat lamp and a fluorescent UVB/UVA bulb.
"a heat lamp and a fluorescent UVB/UVA bulb". Ok this was my question. What type is the heat lamp and this fluro - trademark, which you know is good , model , is it especially for reptiles? Was so hard to undesrstand me?Thanks for the answer!

well as long as you have a uvb floro light, any light will do that will raise the temp properly in that one area"basking spot". generally a spot ligh with translucent glass is good. but any incundecent can do. and if you notice less activity go splerge on a pet store light.

ZooMeds Reptisun 5.0 is thought to be the best fluorescent bulb out right now. As for the heat lamp, what size is your cage? If the halogen bulb you are using right now is getting you the ideal temperatures, with basking temperatures ranging between 90ºF to 95ºF and a cool side of 75ºF, then there is nothing wrong with what you are using. However you need to use this in sync with a fluorescent. Purchase what I recommended, ZooMed Reptisun 5.0.
