sudden egg collapse w/pic

Now maybe it's because I haven't been present for any of my eggs hatching yet, but I saw this today and got a little concerned. Both eggs are due to hatch any day now, but this morning the one on the right collapsed on one side. I might find out before anyone has a chance to reply, but in case I don't, is this due to the hatchling breaking through a small part of the egg and it deflating or is this something to be concerned about?

if they are due to hatch anyday now than this one may be doing just that. Is there any slits in the egg that you can see. When they get ready to hatch the egg will "sweat" a little bit then start to colapse and you should see a slit or a small head peeking out. It's hard for me to tell the pic looks all blury on my screen.

Yeah, I've been looking for a small slit in the egg, but haven't found one yet. Maybe I'm just not seeing it. I'm probably just being a little paranoid about it. I'll wait and see what happens.

Okay, just an update that it is now approx. 12 hours later and the egg remains collapsed on one end. It's as if the gecko made the slit and then stopped. Anyone have any advice? Is it time to open the egg myself? I'm sorta at a loss for what to do next. Any advice is appreciated.

The same thing had hapend to me. I saw the egg and noticed it was collapsed. So i waited bit and then the next day i noticed it had a slit in it. The next still nothing so i split it open and the gecko seemed to be deformed. He might have died while trying to come out of the egg. Maybe the same thing happened to your egg.

I'm thinking that is what happened as it is now over a day later and still nothing is different. I think I may attempt to slit the egg open to see if it is indeed dead. Thanks for the info.

Well, I slit both eggs open because the other one had collapsed as well and unfortunately both geckos turned out to be dead. They were both fully developed, with one even having its eyes open. My theory as to why this happened is as follows with two possibilities.

1) It was just part of nature.

2) The eggs were layed in organic potting soil because at the time I did not have any other medium for them to be laid in. So they got encrusted with a light layer of this dirt which may have hardened around the eggs, therefore making it more difficult for the geckos to break through.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would appreciate hearing them. What a day.
