You guys did great with your guesses!
Here's the answers;

I played a little trick, but some of you still figured it out :) This is a Red Ackie/Yellow ackie intergrade (<i>V. a. acanthurus</i> x <i>V. a. brachyurus</i>). A perfect example of an intergrade created out of ignorance. Throughout the history of this animal, it was thought to be a pure Yellow ackie, It quite obviously isn't. I have also never seen an Ackie that had such distinct contrast between the occeli and ground colour. I can never seem to capture the full beauty on camera. Truly stunning, and something I'd like to try and reproduce, but I'm in need of a worthy mate.

This is one of my Yellow Ackies (<i>V. a. brachyurus</i>). This is one of my first Ackies I ever bought (raised here from a 2 week old hatchling) and it is part of my High Orange breeding project. It's a little dirty so it looks a little dull. I had to dig it out of a burrow for the pic :)

Now for one more question.......what sex are these monitors? :D

Good luck folks and I'll work on another picture riddle soon (assuming people enjoy playing, that is).

Now why wasn't there a prize for this game, lol. I think I will quit while I'm ahead and leave the sexing to the pros.

The intergrades a male, the yellow a female.

Sticking my kneck out there...I'm far from a pro.

Id say intergrate is probably a male .. and the yellow - hmm really hard to say .. maybe also a male but not sure ..

These are wild shots!

My guess is the intergrade is a male, the yellow, a female.

The yellow has such a pointy head!

You should work on getting that intergrade a worthy mate. The contrast is unreal!

Ok, seems like everyone knew that the intergrade was a boy. Honestly, in that pic I posted of him I think he looks more female like, but yes he is a he :)

As for the Yellow ackie, it's a male too. Some of you noticed the difference in head shape (which was part of the reason I posted the question). The Yellow Ackie pictured is a perfect example of a VERY male looking animal and I'm sure you all would have guessed that if I hadn't posted him along with the pic of the intergrade male.

Good stuff guys, I hope you all had fun with it :D

Jon, can you please post a similar pic of a female yellow? I think that would really help understand the differences. Those are very good pics, by the way.
