Hi all. A good friend of mine, who sold me my first BCC many years ago has a BCC that has about 1" of "bung hole" protruding from her vent.
He has internet, but is "Internet Challenged". I was hoping someone could recommend what to do. The snake has been soaking quite a bit, but after receding back a little, there is still some "hanging out"

Can one simply gently, with lubrication, push it back in? I know a Vet would be the logical answer, but my pal is many miles from a regular Vet, never mind one who deals with Herps.

get a Q tip or something and gently push it back in,with lubs. If its out an inch , You'll have to push it in an inch, remember take your time.
After its in tape the vent up and leave it for a few days(about 4). If this works don't feed the snake for a month and then only a small meal for the next few meals, each about 3 weeks apart.

If it is only slightly protruding, you can push it back in yourself. This is to be done using gloves, and a load of lubrication. Go to the local shoppers drug mart and ask for KY Jelly. This is an emergency and should not remain like this for long. Keep the area excreting well moisturized. You can soak it in sugar water - this may cause the prolapse to reverse, and the protruding organ to pull itself back into the body.

Do not just tape the area. Keep the snake well hydrated, and as suggested do not feed him for at least a month, continuing feedings thereafter with small prey items.

Now, you must consider why this happened. Often times, it is due to a lack of hydration. Please ensure the snake has access to fresh water at all times.

Please keep the following in mind: take extreme caution, and be particularly gentle when pushing the organ back in. If you feel you have to push hard to get it back in, stop immediately. At this point, you will have to see a vet or the snake will ultimately die. The organ can be damaged easily, so take extreme caution.

Man, this is four days after the incident, I sure hope he was keeping this area wet. I know it isn't your snake, but this is something you should have been checking answers for on a daily basis. The prolapse is now likely dried out and / or infected...

This happened to my BP about a year ago. I took her to the vet who pushed it back in and put in a drainage tube and a couple of stitches. For a few days I had to flush the tube each day and then took her back in to have the stitches removed. I was concerned that it might happen again, but it never has since. I'm not sure what caused it as my BP always had access to fresh water. I think it had something to do with constipation.
