It increases the fertility rates greatly.

Nothing has to be burmated in order to breed, so my answer is NO, BUT too successfully reproduce (ie: good eggs) from the breeding well chances will be far greater if done Yes. More important for the males to produce viable sperm than it is for the females to produce viable eggs though. Mark

Nothing has to be burmated in order to breed,

Sounds too absolute for that statement to be true. But I guess yea, burmation doesn't count, Brumation does. ;)

<laugh> No idea what burmation is, but, no corns don't need brumation to breed.

I have to differ with Mark though. I don't know of any successful Russian ratsnake breedings without brumation, nor rubber boas.

Well, Katt, since you are stuch a stickler (ie burmation) - I'll point out that Mark didn't say "successful" breeding. Snakes will breed without being cooled, it is the fertile eggs (ie successful) that is benefited by cooling.

I always thought that the point of breeding was to get fertile eggs.

I'm not being a stickler. I think it's funny. "Burmation," I mean really? Is that what happens when you get squeezed by a big burm? Or is it, when you buy a burm, you are burmated? I know Mark knows it's brumation, not burmation. Just pointing out his mistake, b/c I do it all the time and it's nice to see someone else do it too, and to further add, Vanan pointed it out first. So really he's the stickler.

Also, I did not say fertile eggs, but again, I do not know of any russian rats, or rubbers, breeding/copulating, much less with fertile eggs without brumation.

However, I'll be a stickler now.

O.k Katt, I like the definition you found, but my thesaurus gives the following for the word breeding

copulating
coupling
mating
pairing
sex
sex activity
sexual activity

So, nyah!!!!!

That was the usage of the word in my eyes.

I've legally changed my middle name to "petty", so I can truthfully say "petty is my middle name"

well it was my fault for starting the whole burmation thing, but i am a newbie to this so forgive. but i guess the answer is that you can successfully breed without brumation? but youll end up with lesser results?

Don't worry, everyone was a newbie once.

But you're right on the ball. You can breed certain species without brumation, but brumation increases your chances of more fertile clutches. If you're trying to breed corns in Florida, you'll be fine. Crimsonking lives in florida and has great success breeding his snakes.

As stated by Ryan yes I meant they will breed irreguardless (I mean do the nasty BTW LOL), but whether they will be successful producing or not is another question (so there heh heh). I guess I should have just went with "Boys will be Boys" LOL
Vanan & Katt are you making fun of me because of my spelling (or lack of, I always spell it wrong DOH), not very nice LOL Not everyone got to ride in the "big bus" going to school Heh Heh You folks in Leader really do need to get out more though LOL
mrbass111 don't worry about these folks, we all know one another & most of the BURMATION "ribbing" is for me I'm sure LOL I'll give Katt & Vanan a big "burmation" next time I see them LOL Cheers Mark
