First time ever I got my two dragons outside, I got them in the fall. They were only out for about 5 min. but when I went to grab my 2 1/2 year old male he puffed out at me and opened his mouth like he was going to bite. He didn't of course but he has never ever done that to me.
Anyone elses dragon do that before? Is it possible that he didn't want to go in or maybe he became scared of being outside?

He was probably feeling a little defensive from being in a place he wasn't familiar with. One of mine does the very same thing if he's in a strange place. He's seems fine when he is moving around checking things out but will puff up and sometimes hiss when I pick him up, then he calms down.

When i first started taking my guy outside he would take off running (he was on a leash) and if i got to close he would turn around and "flare" up at me until i bent down next to him (so i didnt' look so BIG). After awhile he started to calm down when he was outside. Now when he sees me taking out his leash he gets all excited, then he will calm down while the leash is put on, until it's time to go outside. Once he gets out there he runs then he basks then he runs somemore, it's a never ending cycle until it's time to go in, but he doesn't "flare" up at me anymore.

Oddly enough, this occurs when any of my reptiles are brought outside.

It's a common thing it seems for reptiles to become very lively and even aggresive in the sun. It just perks them right up. Some people have iguanas that are babies inside, but after a few minutes of natural sun they can become monsters.

I believe its a good thing though. :)

Same thing happened the first time I took my guys outside.

I thought maybe they reacted that way because with the sun up above us...I looked more like a predator than I did when it's just him sitting under a lamp. If you know what I mean.

not related to the topic at hand, but...

Bennett, that is an excellent pic showing the mouth, do you mind if I keep it ( uneditted of course ) to show what a healthy mouth looks like and the diffrent aspects of a dragons mouth?
