I've been buying these for some time now.
They were out of stock over winter, but just came in, so I picked up a dozen cases for a huge investment of 12 bucks.LOL
These little Ramekins are 3 for a dollar at most Dollarama stores. There are also bigger ones for 2 for a buck.
It's a heck of a good deal for anyone with rosy boas, sand boas, or for that matter, any baby snakes to house, or raise up. Just thought I would pass this info on. Never forget Dollarama when looking for cheap herp room supplies. From fake plants to screw drivers and measuring tapes, they have some great stuff for a looney.

they look really nice~

I just use deli cups.
I glue one of them to the bottom of the tank and then put a new one on top of it. Thus if the water bowl gets too dirty all I have to do is throw it away and use a new one.

I think that I got my 'water bowls' for $50 dollars for 2500 of them~~ (or something like that)

But yours looks a whole lot better than mine~~

Nice picture Roy, well set up.

Out here they are called "The Dollar Store" or "A buck or two" - and Sheila likes to check them out at each city we are at. Amazing deals on lots of nifty things.

ReneeB- I am looking to use those dishes in my mouse tubs, currently I don't use a dish......do you find they knock the food out or soil the food in the dish?

We have about 5 different chains of "dollar stores" here, but I'll check them out... although Simon's idea sounds kinda good too, hehehe

I too have been getting those for some time. In one of our "Dollar Tree" store types, they have a set of 3. One fits inside the other and then a third, so there's 3 different sizes. It works out fine for me. They wash easily and are heavier than the PVC caps I use also. They also have larger "dog" and "cat" bowls that work well for larger cages/herps. I don't think your snake will mind the little doggie footprints on his bowl:)

Ah, Dollarama, was just there actually.

I have the same dishes Roy posted, and lots of them.
I have the steel pet bowls from there, mmmm, lots and lots of dollarama stuff in my house :)

I was using dishes for food for a little while in my mouse cage, but as soon as they get in there they kick out most of it and crpa in the rest. If they like it better on the ground all dirty, then they can have it there!

Linds,

Do your rodents actually eat off the floor of their cage? The guy I get my feeders from is going to a system where they eat the food through some wire mesh that covers the tops of the tubs. He says he's switching to that method because his rodents won't eat the urine soaked food off the cage floor and as a result a lot is wasted. Just wondering if you've found the same.

Killa, the way you describe is the way most mouse breeding is done.
Other than cleaning, Its a low maintenance dream... I don't really understand all this messing with seeds and stuff that can't be hopper fed.I guess that's Ok if the mice are also pets but it sounds like a lot of work, and you're quite right, they wont eat soiled food.
I fill my Lab chow hoppers about once a month, and that is it for feeding.
For weanling holding bins I use big Rubbermaids, and I make screen baskets for the chow and that keeps it out of the substrate

Roy,

That's quite the set up! It sure does seem there would be a whole lot less wasted food doing things that way and that feed basket is an ingenius creation as well.

I see that you've also eliminated the need for the cages to have individual water bottles (which really look like a pain in cases where many cages are used) by using some sort of gear that I can't figure out. Are those hoses pressurized or more passive? I'm usually anti-gadget but I know a good idea when I see one, what's going on there? Whatever it is I'm sure it's a lot less work than running to the tap over and over.

It really looks like your one step away from having a self sufficient rodent colony, that one step of course being a way to make the tubs clean themselves out. lol!

Yup. I have well over twice as many rodents as my rack can hold, and I haven't modified the bins to hold any hoppers, so half of them have to eat off the ground. None of the food has ever been wasted, although it certainly isn't the best way. Hoppers are the way to go.

Linds: I use dishes for water and food with some of my rodent cages/bins. They fill the dishes of water with shavings, they fill the food with shavings, they kick out half the food onto the ground.

I have about 60 rat weanlings right now in 3 bins, and I use a large ashtray for water, it's quite heavy so they can't move it to easily, and by the time I go up stairs to refill it at night, it's FULL of shavings. So the way I fix the problem is water bottles, it's a must for me to do. I don't know how mice think, but I'm pretty sure they prefer it messy.

Edit: Those dishes Roy are awesome, they look similar to the hamster dishes I buy from the pet store, but the ones I buy are $3 each. Haha, I'm going to Dollaramma.

Cheers
Shane

Wizewise,
Yeah I never use water dishes, all tubs are equipped with waterbottles, but all the overflow tubs do not have hoppers for food.

I love those dishes and have been using them for a while as well. I also use the larger ones that are 2 for a dollar. They work great for water and worms. I also found some larger lower dishes at a dollar store that I use for salads for my dragons. Dollar stores are great. ;)

We use the dishes for both rodents and snakes, though now i'm making hoppers for all the rodent cages I can (the mice are in 10 gallon tanks).
