Hey,

My crested gecko sleeps like a bat. During the day she is normally seen hanging off a leaf. It's hilarious. But is it normal?

I've seen a couple of mine to that, I do believe that it is normal. However, my cresties now sleep in the hide boxes that i've made them. :)

In the wild, they sleep while curling up on twigs. It's pretty bizarre looking. Honestly, though, I would probably add some kind of a hide for it, just in case.

my one male hangs exactly like that on the glass behind a leaf.

I believe the cork bark on the branch acts as a hide......
Cool pics and sweet gecko.......

That's what i was aiming for (bark atop of branch).

I tried putting a hide inside. But they seemed attracted to the plant -she still sleeps bat-like with the hide. It, however, had one purpose: to defecate on. So i decided to take the it out.

Anyways, thanks for the answer i was seeking. It's still hilarious...

You know, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense that they're attracted to the leaves. It may very well be because they sway easily, which allows the gecko to know when something is near, in order to avoid predation. Instinct basically.

Hey Gregg, I didn't expect to see you here....thought you were only into cool stuff like Bitis. ;)

true true. Good logical deduction. Another pictures of her sleeping.

That looks like the MD Custom cages that I keep some of my Green Tree Pythons in. Is that what it is?

Thanks

she's new to my family of geckos. There is also another crested in the tank. he/she usually sleeps under the cork.

The tank isn't from MD. I built that one.

I'd love to know how you made that cage. What material did you use?

Yep, I just saw that and I do have to say that's a pretty sweet snake. That's making me consider getting Jay to throw his male Rhino in with my '02 female EA Gaboon. I'm keeping her over at a friend's house because she's so pissy, so I'd might as well do something constructive with her....like make more Bitis americana for all the so-called hybrid haters. :p

thanks, i'll tell her she's cute. :)

The cage was made out of acrylic. The total cost of the acrylic panels was $60. The hasp and the piano hings cost $4.99 and $1.50, respectively.

You'll also need Methylchloride. It's an adhesive that quickly sets. It requires 48hrs to completely adhere. Cost is $4.99.

It took about a day to build. It's pretty simple if you can find a plastics company that cuts to size.

If building isn't your style, you can purchase them at companies such as MD Custom Caging(USA), or Understory Enterprises(CAN).
They have nice cages and better designes.

How much did it coast you to make that cage?

Aug, where the heck did you find the methylene chloride? I checked with a bunch of places and didn't find anything nearby. And no one would ship it.

the amount of acrylic purchased ($60 worth) was enough to build both the crested tank and the stenodactylus tank. the smaller one was of this size:

http://individual.utoronto.ca/Aug_Leung/DSCF0434.JPG

From the $60 , i would say $45 was for the crested tank and $15 for the steno.

So for the Crested gecko tank it was:
[45 + 2(1.50) + 2(4.99)] X 1.15 = $67CAN plus the labour i spent.

The Sten tank was:
[15 +2(1.50) + 4.99) X 1.15 = $26CAN plus the labour.

Maybe someone should move this to the display section. i think i went off topic.

Try Plastic World @ www.plasticworld.ca and email them.

Or try a search for: IPS Corporation weld-on 3
Product discription: "CLEAR, WATER-THIN, VERY FAST CURING SOLVENT CEMENT for joining ACRYLIC"

Many places in Toronto sell it. However, i do not know if they ship.

Only place in St. Thomas that would appear to carry it is only open during my work hours.
What a pain.

It would be a lot simpler if I could just get it at Home Hardware or the hardware mega-stores.
