Hey no offense, but are you sure you should be broadcasting that you have illegal animals (if you have permits, sorry for the false accusation)...Hopefully they were not wild collected... Again, please don't take this as an offense, but the penalties are very serious when dealing with protected native turtles of ontario..

Snakers55 - there are two of us here Me and Les both of us have valid fishing licenses and that means that we can both keep one snapper each..They were rescues from people who had them and they just got too big for them to properly care for them. They are used for education demonstrations that we do for schools and otehr club meetings...

marisa - They are eating everything from fish to chicks to ducklings (All dead)

I believe that all the fishing liscense does is allow you to have a snapping turtle for personal consumption. To have one in captivity for educational puroposes, you need to get a permit from the MNR.

Can't they just tell people they are fattening them up for eatin' ?

One more thing (sorry to be the most negative one in this thread, but Im trying to help you)...Snapping turtles are known to be cannibalistic, so I would be nervous keeping 2 together, let alone a big one with a small one...Just my opinion..Again, very nice snapping turtles.

Are they aggressive, how do you get them out their?!? Thats insane, good for you that you took him in as a rescue, gave the lil, or BIG, guy a second chance :D

Oh,and if you are using them for educational programs, you should have no problem getting proper permits for them:).

i have a few questions, bellydragger. are either of them agressive towards you? like if you need to pick it up and move it from its enclosure, does it try to attack you? how big is their enclosure? what kind of filtration system do you have? sorry to be a pain, but ive really been thinking about getting one nd i want to find out as much information as i can. thanks

actually he doesn't try to bite me when i have to pick him up. He has never shown any threat to the other turtle. As i believe i said that is their home only for the colder months when the warmer weather comes they go into a huge pond that is on our property.

Whitwolf - Glad to have you over anytime.. :-)

Snappers are pretty cool. I cared for some for a few months on behalf of a friend. They were pretty mean though, they wanted to bite me every chance they got. Made it kind of fun though. I'm sure their bite would hurt real bad, but their strike is so limited, and its so obvious when they are about to. You'd have to be damn near ******** to get bit. I thought it was hilarious because my friends would come over and pick up my other turtles all the time, and it bothered me. I don't like ppl fooling around with my reptiles w/o permission. I spent the whole summer hoping somebody would reach into the snapper tank. Never happend. These thigns are DIRTY. They poop so much, you'll never understand till you keep them, it's unbelievable. I think it would be worth just straight forgoing a filter and doing daily water changes.

well thats what i was going to be doing at first, when it was still a baby, but i think it would get realy annoying once it is full grown, like tanker, and i have the change the water and clean that thing everyday.
