digital thermometer

i recently purchased a few springfield precisetemp indoor/outdoor digital thermometers with probes for my snakes. there is a switch on the back for inddor temps and outdoor temps. seems the outdoor setting is the most accurate in the enclosures. the indoor setting is usually way lower. sometimes between 15-20 degrees cooler than the outdoor setting in the exact same spot. do you guys usually have your indoor/outdoor digital thermometers on the inddor or outdoor setting? also do you just put the probe right on the ground? thanx. ;)

The "in door" setting is so low because it is reading it from the thermometer itself. While the "out door" probe is reading the actual hot spot.

atleast that is the way ours work here if it only shows one temp. :)

munchy, I bought 3 of them this week, and and they are ~0.5F acurate between each other at room them.

basically the "indoor" reading is from the unit itself.
The "outdoor" reading is from the probe.

It's amazing how much diffrence there can be from probe to base if they are even a foot apart.

I bought 2 digital thermometers with probes from Wal-Mart last night and they seemed very accurate.. i'm very pleased with these thermometers and they were only $8.97 each

:) Thats the ones I use. Work great, when the cat doesn't chew the probe wire in half, and I run around flipping out because I can't get the UTH to "work" lol. Only to touch the UTH and find it working. Then STILL can't figure out why the probe isn't working.

Only to see the half probe wire when I am exchanging it for a new one (the cord was tied up with an electrical tie so it wouldn't hit the floor). lol

I picked up those $9 thermometers and a 20 dollar heat pad in the Wal-mart pharmacy area, and the low setting on the pad is 86F, and the medium 95F.

Not too shabby at all. Neither fluctuated at all overnight. It's actually holding at temp better than the Helix and UTH combo I have in place.

i like the wireless ones from canadian tire, you can have up to 3 remotes with probe.
