I am just beginning at starting a cricket colony myself.
Yes first off you need crickets... how to sex them interesting fact is at the rear of the cricket you will see 2 or 3 "tubes". The female has 3 and the middle one being the egg depositor. Feeding may include things like fresh fruits and vegetables ( they really like honey as well ) if you want to gut load them sprinkle the food with whatever type of nutritional substitute powder you use for your reptile occasionally. Water needs to be offered in a shallow bowl that has little pebbles in it so the crickets won't drown. They need hiding spots it is suggested to use paper towel tubes, egg cartons or crinkled up newspaper. I prefer towel tubes. Another shallow dish with sand, vermiculite or cotton balls slightly moistened and kept moistened for the females to lay their eggs in. Floor substrate can be soil, sawdust, vermisulite or something to that effect. DO change them regularly they can stink! Temp should be aroung 24 - 30c or 76 - 86f.
Well good luck to you from me Christina
