hey yo....

not to bug anyone

i just wanted to say i love this message board!

heres why..

i ask for help, oppinions, and all that..

sure im stuborn sometimes, and dont take peoples advice sometimes, but at least i dont get insulted like i do on other animal forums..

heres why..

besides the fact that i love snakes, and my next snake is an albino burm,i also love animals, rabbits, chinchillas, and ferrets!
i have wanted a ferret for so long, and along with my albino burm,im getting a ferret!(in a differint room of course)

and i posted about it on a message board..

and i started getting flamed right away...
here are some of the insults i got,and why..

1:quote "You must have gotten brain damage from all the martials arts you did, cause nobody in there right mind will have a poor defenceless ferret in the same house as visious ugly slimy snakes, that will eat any little animal they see"
(this one got me mad above)

2: "listin boy! your only 22 years old,you need to grow up,i dont feel comfortable with you getting a ferret,i dont think you should get one,you snake will eat it if it escapes"
(boy did i give this woman a piece of my mind, :) )

3:"your just a kid who knows nothing about animals,i wouldnt get a ferret if i were you,you dont know what your doing, you cant keep ferrets and snakes in the same house"

anyway, these were just some of the comments made from women on a animal forum, they make me laugh, and i got like 8 pm's from moderators on that site saying crap like "your on thin ice the way your talking"
and also saying the same thing that the other women said..

anyway,i'll stop babbling..
i love this board,i dont have problems with admins or mods, there all very nice, and the members here are no where nearly as mean to me as they were there..

so this brings me to my next question..are there any members here that keep chinchillas, rabbits,or ferrets in the same house as snakes?

thanks..and all members and moderators/admin..have a nice day!

I have hamsters in the same room as my Ball python. Granted I live in an apt and the only reason they are in the same room is because my living room is just one huge room, but I have hamsters and snakes and my python hasn't eaten them yet :D

Yeah thats the reason im not on any other site. The people here are just amazing and the mods do a great job. I occasionally read some other sites stuff but man do people take things personally. Gotta love ssnakess.com

thats bull, see my avatar (a Blue Silver Marten rabbit) She is in the same room as all my snakes, no probs. Hell, my mice are RIGHT beside my hognose.

All my furry animals and snakes are all withing a 10ft distance of each other, probably less! And when we move they will all be in the same room still.

Lucky you getting a ferret. I hope to get one, one day. Snakes is awesome, even with ALMOST 5000 members, it is still the most kind, and considerate reptile site I have EVER been to!

It's because everyone knows that most comments are meant for the well being of the snake, and not a personal attack.

Snakes is definitly THE BEST site.

When's the store coming back? lol

What's so hilarious about those posts is that if the ferret and the snake both escaped its more likely the "poor, defenceless ferret" would eat the snake - not the other way around!!! Well, I guess some of it depends on the size of the snake, but the ferret is from the weasel family and weasels are snake killers. I've seen video footage of a weasel killing a 6-8' long cobra.

I keep mice, rats and snakes all in the same room (same as Vengeance - I'm in an apartment so I have no choice). As long as you are responsible and keep the needs of all pets in mind, which includes providing them all with secure enclosures, I can't see a problem. In the event that you have a snake escapee (no-one ever plans it, but it does happen) you would want to keep the ferret (or other small furry animal) contained, or out on a leash rather than giving it free range, until the snake had been recovered, but that's just common sense.

yeah for sure, my snakes tanks have thick steel clamps on all sides of the top, nether one has ever escaped, sapphire moon-rabbits are the best arent they, lol.ours is nuts,i love the way rabbits act sometimes..

auskan-i know what you mean,i have read that the weasle family members are hunters too...

thanks guys,keep dem comments commin!

She is absolutely crazy. She is not "tame" at all, lol. it is a real fight to clip her nails. She gets mad and "boxes" us if she doesn't want her toys taken out at night time (so WE can sleep!) And she does the random run jump kick thing that is hiliarious! She is spoiled though.

She is about 5lbs, she has a 4ft long cage that we sometime plan on putting shelves in so she has even more little areas to play in.

Also once we can get her out of this house we plan on taming her down quite a bit and possibly leash training her.

It's wonderful that she is litter box trained, only need to clean out her actual cage about once every 2months (no poop OR pee in the actual cage!, it's so nice!)Lol

She has her "pills" to. It's a papaya tablets that she gets every morning to help her digest her food/fur that she eats/may eat. Every morning when we wake up she is standing up on her hind legs with her front paws against the bars WAITING for it.

We are looking into getting a lionhead bunny sometime. :) They are SO cute :)

And everyone thinks rabbits are rodents! lol :)

sorry for the long post!

I definitely agree. I have met some really nice people through this website and have had quite a few of my questions answered. I don't keep any ferrets or rabbits or mice but I DO have a cat who hasn't had any problems with my snakes yet. And I don't anticipate any either.

Yep, I have to say I enjoy my ferrets more than any other mammal pet I've had (except my dog). I have one female albino ferret and she's around 1.5 - 2.0 lbs and my male sable ferret who is closer to 5.0 lbs. I don't have any snakes yet, but will when I move out. Here's a pic of Storm....

this site is the bets because no matter how experinced or unexperinced you are everyone willing to help you out where on a few other herp sites i;ve been told that kids shouldn't keep herps because there to stupid to know how to take care of them or when id reply to a post it would be taken for granted because i wasn;t "old enough" to know about these sorta things. Since i;ve been on ssnakess though i;ve never had a question gone un answered, thx to all this site kicks a*s
iceman sry to hear some people can be so arrogent towards snakes and there owners. and slient_truth beutiful ferret would get one but my mom thinks there big rats lol.

I'd rather see a kid learning and establishing good habits early, than an adult blundering their way through things.

It's all about the individual. Some people are sponges for knowledge, others are rocks.

Sometimes people just dont' think before they type. LOL

You will find on most other non herp forums that they DO NOT like any herp or arachnid. They don't understand them so they FEAR them, just like most of the population.

I used to have 3 ferrets that i absoultly adored way back when i was younger. They have such great mischeivious minds (i think that's why i like them so much)!!!!

We have a dog, 2 cats, 11 fish, 1 corn snake, and soon to get 3 crested geckos. We used to have 2 ferrets. They were great. Had to sell them though due to the fact that we couldn't let them out as much with the cats and the male bit me and my child. But we still keep in contact with the people who bought them. It was a 14 year old girl who knew exactly what was needed. So I truly believe that any and all pets can be together in one room. That's just my two cents worth though.
