I bought 1.1 Normal Cornsnakes off a guy. All the snakes he had were from the same clutch. Some were albino and some were normal. What does this make mine? Would they be 50 % Het?

Only 2 scenarios my man:

1) He had an amel x het amel,

Then all of the babies that looked normal would be 100% hets.

2) He had a het amel x het amel,

Then all of the babies that looked normal would be 66% POSSIBLE hets.

Hope that helps.

Depends. If one parent was albino and one was a het then they would be 100% het. If both parents were het then they are 66% het. You should find out what the parents were.

I guess I'll find out what the parents were. Thanks a million guys!

Het x Het breeding results in offspring being 50% possible hets....

Sure about that Linds?

Ok -- here's what the ever amazing Genetics Wizard tells me :) I don't know anything about snakes, but I think the same principles apply...

25% Without Trait (ie, there's your normals)
50% Het. albino (these guys would look normal, but be het for albino)
25% Homozygous albino (there's the albinos)

So if you got a normal, you have a 50% chance of having a het for albino, and a 25% chance of just having a normal that's not het for anything.

Oopsy...hehehe... I think I need a nap :o Jeff is correct, the offspring of Het x Het breeding is indeed 66% hets. Here I can usually whip up genetics in my sleep......................:o:o

I didn't want to correct you 'cause I knew you'd see the slip!! LOL!!

However, its generally considered that if there were only normals in the whole clutch (not likely, but could happen) that any normal from a het x het would be 50%. The reason for the 66% or 67% is because if you take 4 animals and 1 is albino, that only leaves 3 animals left. If 2 of those 3 are het, then that's a 66% chance of getting a het.

But as we all know, its just odds. And with snake breeding, always count on the worst odds, ha ha!!

Wow! Thanks for the lesson. It kinda makes sense to me now.

I got a hold of the guy's phone number, so I'll be able to find out about the parents.
