I use poplar wood for my amazon cages. I take a razor blade and cut and round off the edges and then I screw them in place. I have had no problems with these in over two months. I check them weekly to see if the braches are going bad, but so far they are not. Thanks Richard Welter

P.S. When the branches do go back (if they do) I will post and let people know the life span of 1.5-2.5 inch poplar wood beams.
