Hi!!!
I'm need information about sexing corallus hortulanus. When you're probing a male, how long the prob the should "enter", and for a female?
What's the best size for probbing an amazon tree? I know for c. caninus and for morelia viridis it's very dangerous to prob a young, but is ti the same things or an amazon tree boa?
I will wrote my question in french too, because my english is.....ouff!!
De combien d'écailles doit s'enfoncer la sonde lorsqu'on "probe" un amzon tree boa??

Thanks you very much!
Francois :)

Francois,

Amazon Tree Boas are very tricky to sex indeed. They should be probed only by an experienced keeper at no less then three months of age IMO... Fortunately Amazons are easily sexed by eye when looking at the length of their tails. Males are females both have very long tails but males are far longer. For those animals that are an in-between size I would recommend waiting until they're at least a few months old before probing.

Take care,

Hi!!!
thanks for the answer. I have prob some snakes before, but never this kind of snake... I'm very happy to know they are easy to sexe just by a good looking, I will not probe it :-) Well, for a 4 feet snake, the average of the male and the female tail "size" is about what, when we have only one, it's not so easy to compare!

Thanks again :-)

Francois
