I really like the Ivory's. I bet you paid a bundle for the het male. I was offered one (2003) male for $20K US.

It's a het Dave.
What about these dwarf burms, never knew there was such a thing. Do you have any pics yet? How big do the females get?
Cheers,
Trevor

Hey Trevor,

dwarf burmese have only been recently found from what I understand. I think they will eventually be classified as a different species because they are in fact structurally different (scallation, eyes/nostril structure, etc).

Here are a few links:

(go in pythons section)

Interesting to say the least... it will probably catch like fire if it's anything like the burmese pythons, but just smaller... I would expect the dwarf retics to be a hot item for many years to come as well... Anyways, if anybody has more information, please post!!

ps: Martin, when do we get pictures of your dwarf burmese??

Later,
Bristen.

I understand that they are saying it is a co dom trait but I don't see anything that looks different about it? What is the sign of a het ivory??

Maybe we can talk Martin into showing us a belly pic. The RUMOR I've heard is that the hets might be "yellow bellies".

Hopefully this link to some yellow belly pics Jared posted on Bob Clark's site will work:

Well some of them have a darker belly but it still isnt' much to go on to tell a het, but the ivories themselves are gorgeous. I guess it would be easier to see the difference if you held them up next to a normal.

I am sorry but i dont buy in to this dwarf burm crap.
As far as this co dominant stuff goes from what i know if an animal is co dominant it the regulare babys are regular not het for anything.

but that is just me.....

I sure hope the dwarf burms work out. Burms where my first python and I really like them, just too big. My wife still worries about my ball pythons some how being dangerous to the kids or dogs. Anyone heard if the dwarfs have good temperaments too? Hopefully they can be crossed into the standard burm morphs without picking up much size or disease.

I'm thinking that Martin's het is not regular, that it probably has the rather odd belly like the ones that Jared posted. The thing I'm seeing in those pics is that the belly doesn't have dark flecking on it, it's like all the flecking was pushed up in piles along the edge (kind of like a bloodred corn).

edited due to extreme negligence in my memory today

co-dom does not equal incompletely dom

codminant= multiple dominant alleles for a particular trait, for example, blood type, the dominant alleles are A and B, recessive is O

incomplete dominance= say red is incompletely dominant over white, crossing red and white = pink flowers

I've seen some big discussions as to if “co-dominant” or “incompletely dominant” is the term we should be using for some other morphs (pastel etc.). Seems pretty hard to nail down without knowing more about what the mutations are doing.

What if Ivory is more of a pattern mutations than a color mutation? Maybe in the hets the pattern is only messed up on the belly but Ivory is a sort of patternless? It sounds like all the leucistic type balls so far have odd bellied hets but some also have more odd on top than others.
