self eating snakes?

I got a snow corn at the sunday show. it is beautiful adn very friendly. i fed it yesterday in a container and he was interested but right before he started eating the pinkie, he tried to eat himself. now could he have just made a mistake in identity since he is pink himself? or is something wrong?

It happens occasionally, especially in juveniles. Nothing wrong or abnormal, they usually realize the error of their ways. Keep an eye on the little guy when you feed him/her, it will most likely not happen again.

Lol .. we have a mexican black kingsnake that has done that a couple of times too. He takes a whack at the pinkie and ends up biting himself. He usually takes up a rather confused stance like he's trying to figure out who bit him. lol. Funny little snakes.:D

The main reason why it did that was because that it might have smelled the pinky (mouse) on it's body and thought that it was a mouse so it bit it. Nothing too much to worry about but if you want to take a look at what could of happened, go to this link

and you'll know that it's not something funny....and it could happen.

So keep an eye on it during feedings, this happens to hatchlings and small snakes.....I haven't really heard anything about large adult snakes doing something like this...
