Well, as I suspected, partially from what i read in books and what I hear on forums, the snakes will begin to constrict the mouse when they get older. Well, today, on Easter, I put the fuzzy in the container in which I feed him and I was holding him. He was about 6 inches above the mouse and struck the mouse form my hand! I was really surprised and wasn't ready for it. I will be going to the April 18th show in White Plains, NY in one week and I will get tongs there. I am also getting anotehr baby cornsnake then. I cannot wait. Also, My snake shed last night! The third shed he had since I got him. The first one was horrible, coming off in pieces over a very long period of time. Then, the second one was a perfect shed. Every inch of him came off. Today's shed was the same with the last. Perfect. Thanks for checking this post out.
LOL, I had that happen to me last week too. I had been handling my Okeetee and put him back to go and get the fuzzy. As I went to lower it into the cage, he struck at it, taking me completely by surprise. I figured the handling must have really woken him up and he was ready to eat.

Hehe.
That's funny. My corn, Chase, shed for his third time last night too. :)

You can also get tongs at wal-mart, usually called salad tossers. Thats what I use, and probably much cheaper, $1.98

Age has nothing to do with the starting of constriction.

I agree with Jeff,
I notice that it's not age that determines whether or not they constrict, instead it's the size of the prey. If the prey is small, they will eat it without constricting it first. But that's just my opinion

Mine only constrict thier prey if I make them chase it a bit. Even with my JCPs 1 constricts all the time and the other is really lazy eater with less than 50% chance of constricting
None of my corn babies start constricting until later on. It might have nothing to do with age but it has something to do with something because many people report this same thing....even on fuzzies none of mine seemed to start constricting until like the 4-5th month. So far its also holding true with my baby kingsnakes as none constricted until they were well past the fuzzie stage.
