I went out today to Sask Landing prov. Park to test my luck. I actually found one fairly large Bullsnake basking outside a badger burrow. He was about 58" long (total) and quite thick. I havent even heard one frog this year and i have already found a snake. I hope my trip to creston, BC on this Wed. will be as sucessful.

The herping in BC right now is great, in my area anyways. Good luck when you come up here!

Congrats!! Guess we'll have to make a trip out there!!
We started seeing snakes out on April 5th. We have seen bulls, rattlers and plains garters. As well as chorus frogs.

good to hear about the start of the herping season in oliver. i live in the lower mainland and have been catching garter snakes around here for as long as i can remember, but seems every time i go for a road trip to do some field herping, i dont have much luck. weve been everywhere including merrit/spences bridge, osoyoos/oliver, clinton, kamloops area, penticton, and all around the okanagan. to this day ive only seen one rattler (spences bridge) and not one bull/gopher (wanted to see/catch these for so long.) lots of garters though. there is supposed to be a vast array of reptiles out that way which i would love to see but i guess i just dont really know of any good spots. do you or anyone else on this site know of any good herping areas within about 5 or 6 hrs from the lower mainland that you wouldnt mind sharing? or just tips on finding some of these snakes? i just really want this season to be a good one so i can observe these herps in their wild habitat and get some good pics as well. also when is the best time to go looking?

sounds like you had a killer trip. i havent yet been to creston to field herp. any places in particular in creston that have lots of herps? ive been to armstrong too and supposedly theres tons of rubber boas there as well but ive never been fortunate enough to see one. i didnt know we had skinks in bc but thats sweet. ive caught alligator lizards at vedder river before and theyre really cool. so anyone else know of good field herping places in bc? also when is the best time?
