This year i brumated my male cal king, and since i bought him out of brumation, he has ate a couple of times, then shed, and now seems to be off food?
He is also really really active and I presume he is looking for some love?
I only brumated him as an experiment to see if he would, and so he'll do it next year.
Has any body else noticed this type of behaviour before?

Typical for males - most of ours have only eaten a couple times, some have not eaten at all - too many girls around,

Don't worry about it. He'll eat when he wants to. Even if there are no females around, he's got 1000's of years of evolution telling him what to do, so it's out of your hands.

Just offer him food every week or two. :)

Most of my males have ate once only since burmation. Since they have been exposed to the girls they have had only one thing on their mind & it hasn't been food LOL Once they get what they want a few more times they will start to get hungry as most of them have only had 1 or 2 meals in the last going on 6 months. These boys have a strong sex drive I'll tell you what, but they will need to "fuel up" before long. Mark

That won't curb his urges and I doubt it would work anyway.

He'll eat when he wants to. Just be patient...

Tim, I'm not worried in the slightest that he's not eating, (apart from missing watching him eat), its just he's always on the move and trying to open the door on his viv, which makes a lot of noise, and im worried that his testosterone(sp?) levels will remain high untill he breeds, and so will continue all year.

I did try out a rubber snake in his cage, not scented with female snake , but hey, he seemed to like it, and kept starting from the back and following it up the the head (its a toy cobra)
so now, ive either, got him even more turned on and prolonged his fast, gave him somthing cool to sit on, or given him a sex aid:~

But man, a toy snake means NOTHING to your king!!! Why not put a Barbie in there? The "snake shape" isn't what entices a male to breed, it's the scent of a female snake and the seasonal changes that drive the male. You could have put a bowl of spaghetti in there and let him have his pick of 100's of "snake shapes"!!! :D lol

Sorry, this is just too funny to me... Interesting idea though. :)

My male california kingsnake was brumated as well. He has taken two meals since coming out.

But he spends 99.9% of his time trying to get out of his cage, trying to mate with anything etc. They WILL come out of "it" and start eating and stuff. It won't last until he breeds, it just lasts as long as its the season for love. Which is now for kingsnakes.

Even if he had 12 lady snakes he could still be in the mood. It's just that time of year. Nothing you can do.

P.S. Tim thanks a lot for letting the bowl of spagettie idea out. That was my secret trick. :(
