Bad idea they are full of pestisides etc. & the risk involved outweighs the benefits. Mark
I use wild insects all summer long and have never had any problems, however I live in cottage country and i am not near any farm land or houses that use pesticides.

It was a common sight to see me out in the park by my place in the Summer and Fall netting grasshoppers. The city does not spray in the parks around here, and I made extensive use of the grasshoppers and locusts when I was breeding Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos. Just be sure you get your bugs from a pesticide free area. You can't beat the nutritional value of outdoor raised insects.

Scotty,

Most cities in canada have a ban on pesticides, however what can be worse us eating the fruits and veggies that were GROWN with fertilizers etc?... keep them a week or so see if a big percentage die if not don't worry!!! after all you said you can get them by the thousands well how come the pesticides have not killed them ?????????? If you are dealing with very exspensive reptiles well then i would buy my insects but then again who's to say where your buying them they are not cuting corners and picking them themselfs as well *wink*
just a question but what do the ghecko's skinks lizards and other wild bug eaters eat. Im shure they dont look for a park and say hey its safe there. Then run right over if just a thought.

Ever wonder what causes animals to be exterpated (sp)? in certain areas??
I used to live in a rural area, and the land owners around us did not spray.
I would catch, in the hundreds, huge black field crickets for my geckos. I have yet to find a comparable feeder for them.
