HISS in the Hills, 3rd Annual Spring snake count May 7, 8, 9

Leader, Saskatchewan

Friday May 7

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Registration and ice-breaker at Scales Zoo
Free barbequed burgers or hot dogs, cold cuts, buns chips pickles and other fixings.

Saturday May 8

8:00 am – 9:00 am Buy your own breakfast at “Rattlers” (optional)
9:00 am – 9:04 am: Meet at Scales Zoo for densite visit orientation and protocol
9:05 am – 11:30 am: Head out to densites
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Buy your own dinner at the Leader Inn (optional)
1:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Tour of the Great Sandhills, and museum
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm: Freshen up for social
6:00 pm– 7:30 pm: Happy hour and a half / h’ors d’oeurves
7:30 pm – 8:00 pm Supper, chilli and buns, vegetable dip, corn on the cob (provided)
8:00 pm – 2:00 pm Slide shows, picture sharing, karaoke and social evening

Sunday May 9
8:00 am – 9:00 am Breakfast (bacon, pancakes, toast, elephant ears)
9:00 am – 11:30 am: Go back out to densites
12:00 am – 1:00 am: Buy your own dinner at Leader Family restaurant (optional) Chinese food smorg, full western menu
1:00 pm– 2:00 pm: Goodbye to guests at Scales Zoo

A 2004 membership to HISS is required to reserve your spot and participate in the spring rattlesnake count. HISS memberships are $20 single, $25 family.

An additional participation fee of $20 single, $35 / couple (with single membership), or $50 / family (with family membership) will be required to attend the weekend festivities. This may be paid on registration night.

Scales Zoo admission, The Great Sandhills Museum admission, snacks, pop, Friday barbeque, Saturday Supper and Sunday breakfast are paid for with your registration fees.

Beer and alcoholic beverages for the Saturday night social are $2.50 each, or $20.00 for 10 tickets. Pop and other non-alcoholic refreshments are free.

Saturday breakfast and dinner, and Sunday Dinner are optional to the guests. If you would rather eat a sandwich and save money, you are free to do so. Leftovers (cold cuts, bread, pickles, vegetables and dip, baked goods, etc) will be made available all weekend for those opting out of the restaurant meals, or those who like to snack between meals.

We are hoping to have a bus available for transportation all weekend. Failing that, transportation will be otherwise arranged with personal vehicles.

Reservations for accommodations at the Leader Inn are suggested. Room rates are $30 / night. R.V accommodations and tent camping can be provided by reservation at no extra cost. If you would like to bring a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor of the rented hall, you may do so; but please let us know in advance.

HISS memberships should be paid in advance; attendance fees can also be paid in advance, and is preferred. Contact us about payment arrangements.

RSVP required by May 1. A paid HISS membership is required to reserve attendance to the snake count. You can pay for HISS memberships Friday night, but there are no guarantees on transportation, camping or accommodations for the event.

Late Cancellations (after May 1) attendance fees may be refunded, or transferred to the fall snake count, or other field trips, at the discretion of the HISS directors. Membership fees to HISS are non refundable. No exceptions.

We will have HISS membership sign up sheets with us at the spring TARAS sale for anyone attending who wants to come to the Spring snake count.
