Hey i got The Crested Gecko in Captivity book (Thanks Scotty). Its a good book. What caught my eye the most was a pic of a moon glow crestie morph, it looks like Anthony C's ghost gargoyle but its a crestie!!!. Has anyone seen one of these morphs before?

Steve,

I don't know about the supposed moonglow. I snapped some photos of a Crested Gecko at a friend's house and it looked way more white than the "moon glow" in that book. The animal shed that evening and the next day and it was nothing more than a light tan/grey animal according to the owner.

I'm not saying that this is the case with the "moon glow", but I've seen a lot of Crested Geckos and that's the closest I've seen to it.

yea youll have to be very carefull with beleaving what you see in books and mags. Some people take these pics at certain times with certain lighting to trick the eye and make people think there is a new morph out there. I really dont fully beleave books but just read them to see what other people experiences are. I then take all the data from numerouse books and make my own care guide, using common sence one can figure out many ways to solve easy problemes

Remember the story of the Blue Crestie.... seeing is not believing. :)

Exactly. I've taken photos of animals myself that don't look right. The "white" one was one of those. Those are the pictures that get chucked. If that's not how the animal normally looks, I don't use the photo.

Here's a good example pic that I took at a show...this baby cresty was going into shed and it looked purple, even though it was really dark brown/grey.

Very true, but the pic of the moonlight phase is very different from any supposed blue phase pics that i seen. Im not saying that I believe in it but it is a very beautiful morph if it is true.

OK, since some people don't seem to understand, here...here's the pics I was talking about.

This is nothing but a light tan colored, patternless Crested Gecko just before it shed.

Now do you see how the "moon glow" could possibly be nothing more than a grey crested gecko in a bad mood or going into shed?

If there ever are some like that, Anthony, I'd love to have some! Even though I know it's close to shedding, it's an awesome colour.
One of my pink females looks pure white just before a shed. All you see is coppery red eyes on pure white for about 2 days or so. She looks like a red-eyed ghost.

Hilde,

I swear to you, you wouldn't give $50 for him if you saw what he normally looks like.

lol, moonglow? that's clever... To add on to Anthony's point I have some pics of two of my breeders. They are extremely light most of the time and sometimes slip into the "moonglow" end of the spectrum, but they can also look completely normal at their darkest. So I guess i'm trying to add that just because a crested isn't in shed, doesn't mean you're looking at a true representation of the animal. If it's not in shed, I suspect that moonglow looks something like these guys in reality:

This is my favorite guy Ollie, he's showing a little more colour than normal but this is his most stable colour phase: http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/180ollie11.jpg http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/180ollie3.jpg

And this is one of my females, also at her most stable/common colour phase:http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/180peach1.jpg http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/180peach2.jpg http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/180peach3.jpg

Sorry for all of the pics, and the baggy sweats... I just got back from a run.

I was just emailed some photos of a supposed moonglow. It's a long story, but I may end up getting to see the animal(s) in person soon.

If I was wrong about the morph, believe me, I'll be the first to admit it...because I'll be buying some. :D

That said, I'm really not planning on having to fork over any cash. :)

Just to clarify, I didnt say that I believed that the morph was true, I was just asking if any saw it before. :D

I know...it's just that after seeing the photos that were emailed to me, I'm starting to feel a little less confident in my first reaction. lol ;)

I really hope it is a real morph, but after taking the photos of the "white" one above, it will be tough to convince me. Then again, I do have a stark white Gargoyle, so it may be true.
