Okay, i know we have a few hockey fans here, and for those of you that aren't.. You can play too (always the ones that know nothing about hockey get the most right)... So, let's have some fun and make some predictions.. (no editing posts at the end of the round please)..

My picks...

Eastern Conference

Tampa Bay vs. Long Island = Long Island in 7.. (Yashin is on fire!!)
Boston vs. Montreal = Montreal in 6.. (two words.. Michael Ryder)
Philly vs. New Jersey = Philly in 6.. (Primeau will own Elias)
Toronto vs. Ottawa = Toronto in 6.. (i dont think i need to say anything, but i will.. Bondra.. LMFAO.. Oh yeah, Brian Leetch and Ronnie Franchise!!!)

Western Conference

Detroit vs. Nashville = Nashville in 7.. (Jordin Tootoo has too much heart, he'll take atleast 2 Wings out, with CLEAN hits)
San Jose vs. St. Louis = San Jose in 5.. (San Jose is too strong this year)
Vancouver vs. Calgary = Calgary in 6.. (no Big Bert..)
Colorado vs. Dallas = Dallas in 5.. (no goaltending for Colorado)

Unfortunatly we have to watch two Canadian teams go out in the first round, but it's going to be one of the best 1st rounds of the playoffs in a long time!! Can't wait!!

Seeing as my favorite team is ANY team that is playing the Canucks, I'm picking the Flamers to go to round 2 for sure. Detroit will destroy the Preds WITHOUT Cujo. St Louis is just not all they could/should be, but they could upset the Sharks. I say Sharks in 7 games.

Colorado and Dallas should be the best series in the 1st round outside of Cal-gree and Van-loser. I would have said the 'Lanche, but Karyia got hurt tonight and who knows what's up with Foresberg. Corson and Dollar Bill and Turkey (Turco) ate just too hot. Buh-buy Colorado.

They play hockey East of Alberta? ;)

Eastern Conference

Tampa Bay vs. Long Island = Long Island in 7.. (Tampa no playoff experience!!)
Boston vs. Montreal = Boston in 6.. (Although I want Montreal to win)
Philly vs. New Jersey = New Jersey in 7.. (Defending champs have too much pride to go out in the first round)
Toronto vs. Ottawa = Toronto in 6.. (Toronto have added more depth and talent, Ottawa's goaltending has been weak lately)

Western Conference

Detroit vs. Nashville = Detroit in 6.. (Detroit is too strong, but TooToo will give them hell!!:D)
San Jose vs. St. Louis = San Jose in 6..
Vancouver vs. Calgary = Vancouver in 5.. (no Big Bert...but they still have Nasland)
Colorado vs. Dallas = Colorado in 7.. (Goaltending is not the problem in Colorado, it's their Damn coaching!! But with all their talent they will get over their winless streak and get it together in the playoffs...Especially with Forsberg healthy!!)

:D

They play hockey East of Alberta?

Best Conference in the League.. 6 teams with 100 plus points, that's just insane!!! And when did Karriya make a difference anyway?? LMAO, he's had a HORRIBLE season, him and Selanne.. Colorado must be kicking themselves over those signings...

KaHane
04-05-04, 02:06 AM
C,mon Kariya and Selanne would have had a better season if the coach would play him with the star players instead of in the 3rd and 4th checking lines!!! Horrible coaching now and last year!! Which made them go out the first round!!
Anyways My choice for the final is Leafs and Avs!!! My 2 favourite

The polling will only allow room for 10 options. I'm sure this is a poll that an exception can be made for this one.

I'm a big sens fan, and i'll be the first to admit that last game was just disgusting. But if you think they are gonna take a a** kicking like that and not come back full throttle, you're crazy. Sens will take 1st game of that series.

i hope montreal wins, but i don't see it happening.

vancouver is missing bertuzzi, but they'll still do well.

colorado's goalie sucks worse than ours, but with the team they have in front of him, they'll go far.

NEW YORK (CP) - Toronto goaltender Ed Belfour is the NHL defensive player of the week after moving into a third-place tie with Jacques Plante on the all-time victories list with 435.

Belfour went 3-0-0 last week with a 0.67 goals-against average, .971 save percentage and two shutouts.

Belfour finished the season with a 34-19-6 record, 2.13 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and career-best 10 shutouts in 59 games.

Ottawa in six - whoever thinks Toronot has more talent is off their rocker. The 6-0 on Saturday was a fluke. 2-0 would have really be more impressive; six is just luck. Ottawa has more depth, talent, and speed, and once Lalime is back, Ottawa is set. Lalime's playoff gaa is 0.4 lower overall than Belfours.

Go sens go!

dank7oo.. Belfour has also been in the league since 1989 and played 148 Playoff games.. He's also won a Stanley Cup.. What are Lalime's credentials?? 34 Playoff games and, oh yes, one series win.. Better get your parade planned... Do you already have the Golf Course picked out?? :D

Yeah, the Leafs lack depth.. LMAO.. Let's see, we're sitting 3 Defenceman that would easily make the top 6 on about 80% of the rest of the leagues teams (with the exception of a few teams). And yeah, they have no depth up front.. LMFAO.. 4 Lines that can all score.. Chris Neil is gonna be scoring lots for you guys, same with Varada.. Ottawa and Depth in the same sentence, almost works..

I dont think anyone on here can deny that belfour is a great goalie and has the talent and playoff experience to get the leafs to the cup. GAA doesnt mean anything at all....because you only gotta win by one goal no matter how it comes.

Meh. Matt, I can say the same about Domi and Belak - LOL
4th line of Vermette, Neil, Spezza, Redden, and Pothier is probably THE top forth line in the NHL.
And as for top defencmen .. Chara, Redden, Phillips, and Volchenkov are the top 4 defence on any team in the league.
Nice try.

Jason

Matt_K
04-05-04, 10:30 PM
Spezza's a 3rd Line Center (if he's playing on the 4th line, that's a shame) and oh yeah, he's hurt.. but okay.. As for Belak and Domi... Well, Belak is suspended and wont and wouldnt be playing the playoffs anyway.. And once Tucker comes back, you can say bye to Domi.. I'll give Ottawa credit, they have a good team, they have a lot of fire power.. But look at what happened on Saturday, they lack heart.. Remember a couple months ago when Ottawa was winning 4-0 and Toronto came back and won 5-4?? Yeah, lemme guess, 'Ottawa had the flu'.. Likely excuse.. I'm sorry, but as long as Ottawa is captained by Aldresson and has Lalime in net, they best they will be is exciting in the regular season.. I feel sorry for Spezza, he deserves to play for a good team..

I can't wait to watch Neil chase Marchment around the ice like a moron trying to pick a fight, and ultimatly taking a penalty cause Marchement caught, Havlat, Hossa, and countless others coming across center with their head down..

Isnt that the point of having a favorite team?? Im sorry, but if you don't think that your fav. team is gonna win it, you're not a fan :D And this is why i LOVE all hockey fans, stand up for your team, if they go out first round, hold your head high, cause atleast they made the playoffs, and don't be ashamed of an early exit, it could be worse, they could be the Penguins.. Matt_K
04-06-04, 12:05 AM
I agree with you 100% man, that's why the Leafs have the best fans in the league.. Now if only they would let the FANS have tickets and not the losers in the business suits who sit on their hands watching the games.. It's a shame that Leaf fans have to go to games in Buffalo, Ottawa and Montreal to be heard..

lol - spezza is on the forth line (unless they change for the playoffs) and our coach AT LEAST takes responsibility for losses .. not like quinn saying the sens play dirty?! i mean come on, toronto has more goons than the wizard of oz has flying monkies. as for marchment ... its a shame the league dosent pay more attension to him, because he should have been thrown out a long time ago.

Matt_K
04-06-04, 11:15 AM
Been thrown out??? For what?? Cathching guys with their heads down??? Only an Ottawa fan would complain about clean hits.. I guess Havlat's stick to Mark Recchi's jaw ON PURPOSE was clean huh??? I love Ottawa's fans.. How about Alfredsson's hit from behind in Game 5 a couple years back, i guess that was clean too huh???

And yeah, i see Ottawa's coach taking responsability.. 'we have the flu, we we'ren't ourselves'.. Way to own up to sucking.. It amazes me how Ottawa fans put on their blinders when it comes to dirty plays.. I guess the elbow to Domi's jaw last game was clean too huh???

dank7oo
04-06-04, 01:01 PM
Yeah .. Domi deserves it and more. Alfies hit was the much cleaner than most of Toronto's hits. Havlats hit was unjust, but if it happened to a Toronto guy it would be great. Martin took 100% responsibility for the game 6-0, and as for the flu, let's see your team win with 4 people on the bench. I mean, you arent even have reasonable arguements again what is being said.
Marchmant is suck a dirty hockey player ... i mean I am surprised he isnt getting called for charging all the time.
And you wanna talk about hit, Domi, with 5 seconds left, punching van Allen in the face when he was recovering from jaw surgery. Or how about tucker jumping into the Ottawa bench, or Domi punching Adverson from behind in the same game.

And matt, never seen anyone so passionate about a crappy team (LMAO LOL)

Jason

Matt_K
04-06-04, 01:06 PM
A crappy team.. Hmmm, more points then Ottawa.. ANYWAY.. Marchments takes 2 steps into his hits, that's CLEAN.. Havlat got 2 games for trying to take off Rechhi's head.. Fair?? Alfredsson's hit on Tucker was 3 feet from the boards and from behind (way to teach the kids).. The flu.. Apparently you didnt notice that Toronto not only was missing 5 regulars, but Nolan and two others were ALSO battling the flu.. Domi punching Van Allen, he speared Domi earlier in the game.. Tucker jumping into the bench, i would too if somene spit at me while i was skating by..

Do you have anymore excuses for your poor excuse for a hockey team???

dank7oo
04-06-04, 01:10 PM
I guess it'll all play out in the playoffs. 5 regs who stink .. who cares. Your excuses are just as lame :) More points .. yes ... more talent .. hell no.

Peace out,

Jason

Matt_K
04-06-04, 01:16 PM
hahahhaa, 5 regs who stink.. LMFAO.. Belfour sucks soooo bad.. I can't even have this convo with you, take your blinders off dude. Read my posts, i already said, Ottawa has a good team, they just suck.. :D

Ah, the NHL playoffs. Time for hockey fans across the country to get their blinders on full force (yes, that includes TO fans, too).
Here's what mine says:
No team in the NHL, NFL, NBA and even the the MLB can match the Canucks awsome speed, goal scoring prowess, defensive responsibility, and all around gutsiness. We will see incredible resolve from a team that has gone through an unbeleivable amount of turmoil this season, only to top it off with an inspiring fight to take over the top spot in their division in the last game of the regular season. The presence, even the mere thought of Big Bert in the lockerroom will be all that the Canucks need to take it all the way this year. The only picture I can see in my head is of Trevor Linden hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head, only to have the top of the trophy fall off. Haaaa Haaaa!!!
Good Luck to all the Canadian teams. Except for Calgary of course.
My prediction: Oil in seven! Oops.

Lonely Canucks fan in Montreal.

Matt_K
04-06-04, 02:16 PM
Couver definatly has a good chance in the west.. Their speed?? Easily matched by.... Nashville.. yeah, i said it.. Anyway, they have a good chance, but they'll only go as far as Cloutier will take them.. Unfortunatly, im not sure that's very far.. I am however hoping for Couver and Calgary to come out of the west..

Ahem,

Cloutier is as good a goalie as any out there. This is his year to prove that he has what it takes to lead the Canucks to glory. The canucks have reached the finals every decade the last twenty years give a take a few years. This is the year that Dan Cloutier will be compared to then surpass King Richard Brodeur and Captain Kirk McLean....I can see it already. Its so Beautiful...I'm going to cry...Haaa Haaa!

Toronto will take the ottawa series if Eddys back holds out and I think Renberg should play on the fourth line or not at all. Antropov and Ponikarovsky are going to have to pick up the physical slack left by Nolan and Tucker. Too bad we didn't have a third line of Tucker Ronny and Nolan would have been awesome.

funny how the sens came closer to winning the cup last year then the leafs have in how many years now?

where will you be when your goalie and the other 3/4 of your team retires in a few years? Trevor kidd gonna carry you, LOL, GOOD LUCK! I'd say the leafs have a few years left, then they will be a "bottom of the pot" team.

Ever seen some of the prospects the Leafs have in St. Johns?? Heard of a guy named Mikeal Tellqvist?? Trevor Kidd?? His contract is up at the end of this season, he wont be back.. But incase you forgot, he was in net for one of Toronto's 4 wins over Ottawa this year.. LOL.. Where will i be when some of the players retire, still watching a team beat Ottawa in the playoffs.. :D And actually, The sens made it to what?? The conference finals?? Wow, so did Toronto a couple years ago, and lost to Carolina, or do you not remember that?? I know i do, cause they put out Ottawa to get there..

I hope Ottawa isn't banking on Ray Emry as being the goalie of the future, he's good with his fists, but did you see the 5-hole on that guy??? LMAO

It's a great rivalry, as is the one between the fans.. I'll be honest, im a little nervous about the playoffs, cause you can't help but think that Ottawa is due to win a series against Toronto...

K1LOS
04-06-04, 08:06 PM
It would be about time! In all honestly i don't see the sens winning the cup this year, nor do i think the leafs will. I think last year was the best chance we will get for a couple years. I just hope a cdn team wins it!

The sens vs leafs could go either way though. We won't just sit back and take another beating like the last game. They will come out strong. If leafs get first goal in first game we will be in trouble. If they win the first game, we will be in BIG trouble. Our confidence will get squashed really easy in this one. It should be exciting!

Geoff

Matt_K

I think Ottawa's biggest obstacle is the fact that they're going to have to treat every game like it's a road game.. More and More fans show up to the games in Ottawa making it louder for Leaf fans.. The chants of 'Go Leafs Go' easily drown out the 'Go Sens Go' chants.. And the boo's for Aldresson aren't hard to hear..

Alright, let's get serious for a minute here.. It's all fun to joke about players and stuff on here, and even on the radio, but i'm not sure if any of you guys have heard about the latest out of Ottawa.. if not, have a look..

4/7/2004

The first puck hasn't even been dropped and the Battle of Ontario is already looking uglier.

The Ottawa Citizen reported Wednesday that Tie Domi is considering taking legal action against an Ottawa radio host who insinuated on the air the Toronto Maple Leafs forward hits his wife.

HERE (http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=79333) is the full story..

Gotta add my predictions, basically every series depends on how well the goalies play.

T-bay in 4
Boston in 6
New Jersey 7
T.O. in 6

Detroit in 4
San Jose in 5
Calgary in 5
Dallas in 6

The only reasons the leafs will lose to Ottawa are bad coaching by Quinn, should have fired him a long time ago, and if the eagles back doesn't hold. The oldtimers should be able to hold up against a not so physical team.
I can't believe what some of you wrote, Marchment is a great player that can actuly throw a good hit. And the comment about Domi not playing.. if he doesn't play I am going to cheer for Ottawa he is the heart behind the leafs and the hardest worker of them all.

Who do you sit when Tucker returns then?? You can't sit Kilger, the guy's been playing amazing and adds size and speed to the team.. You can't sit Fitzgerald, as he's the teams top penalty killer.. The only one that makes sense is Domi.. Unless you wanna sit Renberg, which really, doesnt bother me much.. LOL.. :D

I don't care what you all say...Detroit IS HOCKEYTOWN and always will be. All the way to the Cup this year.

Personally I like Cujo but if he's out we've still got Legace. It's just too bad we had to spend all that time screwing around with Hasek. He should have stayed retired.

Cujo will be back and better than ever.

Lord Stanley's cup will be in HOCKEYTOWN when all the dust settles just watch and see.

What does the regular season have to do with the playoffs?? Obviously nothing.. I remember Ottawa beating Toronto throughout the regular season and losing 4 games straight in the playoffs.. The regular season is all about posistioning in the playoffs (who finishes where).. Detroit has a great team, agree'd.. Prolly better then the teams i listed, but the difference is, the teams i listed have young talented HUNGRY players.. Detroit will be lucky to get passed Nashville.. And if that series goes 7 games, Detroit will be tired for round two, then what??

3. Vancouver 101
4. Colorado 100
5. Dallas 97

That's far from 'underachieving'.. Perhaps they all should have had 164 pt. seasons??

Dank you seem a little harsh sometimes man. Everyone seems to get the joke but you. This is all in good fun. Take a breath.

So im not the only one that's realized that huh??

Taking stuff a little too much to heart.. The Red and Black blinders have you in a bad mood or summin man, it's pretty sad that everyone else can have fun and talk about stuff, but you turn it into a 'what do you know' type conversation..

4-2, HAHAHHAHAH. Bring on the excuses!

oh and if i hear one leafer complain that that double penalty wasn't justified...

the first penalty he was pulled down from behind by a hook, the second penalty the guy slashed so hard he broke the stick and still smashed the sens' shin. They were both penalties, whether these are penalties that should be called in the playoffs is another story. None the less, you broke the rules, and you got called on it. Keep in mind, we got a penalty for highsticking that shouldn't have been called.

So aside from that, how else can you justify this loss?

About those penalties in the previous game , I'm not going to btch about the calls against the leafs but they have to have some standard. It seems like just make calls whenever they feel like it both ways. Its frustrating to watch, I can't imagine what it would be like to play with the refs making the calls they are.

Can U believe that the Leafs won that UGLY game..?? One team playing like it was Columbus on the last day of the regular season I can see...but both Ottawa AND Toronto playing ...that way?? lol....what was it...Even Don had no explanation...it REALLY shut him up....( I swear he had D"OH??? on his lips after the game!! lol...)...well I think I'll say we's in for a great Sunday night since both teams had a break through most of game 5...

P.S. LEAFS 3-2.....had to...

Matt_K
04-17-04, 07:03 PM
I think a lot of the game being so boring, had to do with the fact that the crowd was not into it at all. After the game, i was talking to a friend of mine, and we were trying to figure out why exactly the game seemed as boring as it did.. I think it was just a smart game played by both teams and the fans didn't make ANY noise.. Unfortunatly for Ottawa, they lost due to a soft goal.. Tomorrow night should prove to be a VERY exciting game.. Can't wait..

paul vader
04-17-04, 07:49 PM
Thanks for reminding me...I had a few wobbly pops last night and forgot that I actually e-mailed the CBC to bitch about the fans late in the 2nd period lol......I saw 1 Toronto rock game and if they had 5 of those fans at every Leaf game...wow...You could hear a pin drop half of the time last night...I guess that in order to pay the silly price for the game...you may need to turn in your voice at the gates or something...to Bad its Sunday night...early Monday sucks after late Sunday's...lol...

Matt_K
04-17-04, 07:56 PM
I think what makes watching it on TV worse, is Bob Cole, is another announcer out there that hates the team more?? He does EVERY Leaf game on CBC and ONLY get excited when the opposition scores.. He says 'Scores' for like 2 minutes when Ottawa scores, but when Toronto scores, it's a quick, 'scores'.. it's annoying, and its not only in the playoffs, it's in the regular season too, no matter who they happen to be playing on that Saturday night.. I think only other announcers i can't stand would be Gord Miller and Peierre McGuire.. HE"S A MONSTER!!

Bob Cole...nighty night Bob...lol...great guy from the Rock but I think they need to give him a push home...nostalgia keeps him around but he misses a lot of plays and if I had to hear him on the radio....wait...he'd still be better than Joe Bowan...that man scares children, I'm sure of it...lol...I think him and Harry Neale are o.k. together and I think that they are Leaf fans at heart...new blood sounds good...but I'm not too crazy about the CBC's whole crew...

Matt_K
04-17-04, 08:50 PM
Dude, Joe Bowen is the GREATEST announcer ever.. He gets soooo excited for EVERY goal, no matter who scores it.. And he doesn't blow calls like Bob Cole. If you watched the game last night, he actually started to call someone on the team 'Gilmour' and then caught himself, it was SAD.. Joe Bowen should call ALL playoffs games, if you remember 2 years ago, his call in game six where he thanks the Leafs after the scored to keep the series alive, i got a lump in my throat!! LOL..
