Well i was cruising the literature section of petco, we were picking up mealies for the class pets, and who should i notice reading with me, a green anole! He was obviously an escapee, and had a number of physical injuries, kinked tail, and what looks like a few brokem ribs. After i caught him the manager said i could have him 1/2 off! My mom said yes, only because we already had tanks and such. So now i own a green anole these guys are awesome, i found out they need UV, so the bulb is on its way as we speak/type, I just have two questions:

1. I put a few crix in with hem, and a few mealies in a dish, and has since eaten two mealies, and NO interest in the crix, So can he live on mealies (have reptocal on them), or should i still offer crix just for the variety?

2. How do you pronounce Anole, I pronounce it ah-no-lee, but my bro says its ah-nole (silent e stress o, like the word know w/ l @the end) So who is right? thanx

I myself used to pronounce it A-no-lee too, however the corect pronuncitation is Ah-nole. Yes your comparison of the ending to the word know+l is good. So you can pronounce it Ah-knowl.

With your little guy, do not feed him straight mealies. Actually IMO, ditch the mealies. These have a thicker exoskeleton than any other common feeder worm. Stick with the crix. He will show interest if you do not feed him any mealies. If you want to add some variety(which i highly recommend, but stick with crickets mostly), feed him small silkworms, butterworms, and superworms, also any size waxworms(not too often though). Good luck, hope he gets better.

I have heard many an expert pronounce it as ann-ol-ee. I also have heard it as ann-ole and as uh-nole. Personnaly, I use uh-nole, as it slips of my tongue that way.

Congrats on the new little guy! It's refreshing to hear someone excited about Anoles, although they aren't my cup of tea, most people tend to overlook them or look down upon them. Anyways... the UV light you are getting is pretty well unecessary. Although they are diurnal, they are meat eaters. Meat eaters don't have the problems utilizing dietary d3. A regular incadescent bulb is fine for heat, and he must be supplemented
with d3. Also, the only bulb worthwhile buying for UV are the powersun bulbs, which output way too much heat for a small/medium tank. The rest are very weak (24 hours exposure is equal to 5 minutes of sunlight), the UV doesn't extend more than a few inches from the bulb itself, and if there is any screen in the way it will further decrease available exposure by half. All insectivorous/omnivorous/carnivorous reptiles require is proper dietary supplementation (cal + d3). 1/2 off isn't really much of a deal (they probably buy them for less than a dollar) considering the shape he is in. They really should've given him to you for free. Best of luck rehabilitating your new friend

anoles are the greatest little lizards...u wouldnt believe how many community tanks i had with those little guys.....ya i would stick to the crickets.....when i wrked at superpet the anoles really showed a love for butter worms too...if u can get those..then that would be great...oh and dont listen to anyone that tells u bad stuff about these little guys...they may be cheap but they are more colourful and more active than any other lizard i know..have lots of fun

I had an anole for awhile and if crickets are all they are offered, he will really go for them. I used to buy a dozen at a time and when I went to empty the bag into the tank, he would usually grab one before it even hit the floor of the tank. He would have the first eaten and have grabbed the second, sometimes before the crickets even had a chance to look around.

Hi
If you go to a fish bait store and get a bag of maggots. Bring them home and put them in a container will a few holes in the lid on top of your lizard cage where it is warm in about ten days you will have flies. Take the container and put it in the fridge for about 15 minutes or until the flies go sluggish and can't fly, then open the lid and put them in your lizard tank in a few minutes they will fly and give your pet excersize and more food variety.
I do this with all my lizards about once a month.

I agree with LINDS considering the shape he was in, the price they paid and the circustances he was found in they shouldve given it to you for free. I know i would of.
