Humidity Spike.

Ive noticed over the past 2 days humidity in my bloods enclosure quite high (77-80%). The water bowl is quite small and is all the way on the other side of the enclosure away from the heat pad. I also have abot 35-40 holes drilled on each end for ventilation.Is this humidity too high for bloods? The cage is not wet just humid,I use newspaper as my substrate.

I'd say no. I keep mine between 70-80% and she does just fine. If the humidity gets too low, they'll soak more, if it's kept higher, they tend not to soak or drink as much. Mine tends to adjust well, to humidity changes, but temps, I think, are more of an issue. She seems to like cooler temps, so 79-85 seems to work best for her, with an ambient of 81-82. Any hotter, and she'll probably overheat. Ive heard of people keeping them hotter, but I've not found this to work for mine.

Thnx Ax, my little girl has not left , or at least I have not seen her leave her hot hide since I got her (got her 3 days ago),her hot hide is 90, ambient stays 81-82, I was worried that she would overheat by staying in there for so long but shes not done more than hang her head out.

Is she looking to get fed? That's what mine does when she's hungry.
That 90 sounds pretty hot but I assume it's just a baby, so maybe a little more heat is required. Or maybe the cool side hide is too cool? Anyway, it sounds like maybe you should feed it..
Have you fed it yet? I assume frozen thawed right?

No such thing as too high for bloods. Mine are kept on moist moss, which means the humidity that they are in contact with is 100% at all times. Although care sheets recommend 60-75%, my personal experience has been that this simply doesn't cut it. They end up with dry scales, and are constantly soaking in their water dish at this humidity level. 80-100% seems to suit them just fine.

Thanks all for the advice , on a side note I musta been tired as hell when I started this thread, I have no idea why I called my male Sumatran a she but I just re-read my posts and couldnt stop laughing. I mean sheesh one or two mistakes but I said HER and SHE over and over again :p

Any way HE has eaten his first small rat with me scared the hell outa me too. I had no idea how fast and hard these guys strike. Awsome. :D
