Could someone let me know how much heat this stuff gives off, in the air, say 12 to 16 inches away from the tape itself. Does anyone think it could be used on ceiling of an enclosure as night time heat, or even a low profile alternative to a baskink light/heat emitter? Thanks for any input, Don.

12 to 16" I would think no 'real' heat. It would definitely add to the ambient temp of the enclosure, but would pose a great problem with any snake touching it's 140 degree + surface.

What are you housing? Beardies? Most animals do fine with a night drop to average house temperatures.

Yes it is for beardies, but I was more interested in the low profile alternative to a heat emitter part of the question. Something like a home made heat pannel, that doesn't cost 150.00 bux. Don

I'm pretty sure the heat it gives off is more like an UTH. not like a basking lamp or radient heat pannel. It's designed to heat whatever it's in contact with, not give off ratient heat.

Beardies do fine dropped down to room temperature at night, I wouldn't be overly concnerned with trying to find a way to provide night heat as well. If you still really wanted to, then I would just put the heat tape on the bottom, animals do not receive any heat from above in the wild at night anyways, just off rocks and whatever else has soaked up the rays all day.
