I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to light my Beardie.

don't have a dragon yet :)

doing research on the best methods.... and I'm getting very impatient that I have to wait until June to get it :(

Are you talking about lighting, or the UV rays dragons need?

UV: there is no cheaper method. You HAVE to use a UV reptile bulb, and they are expensive.

Lighting as in just to see them: you can use anything.

Heat lighting: any spotlight type bulb works pretty good.

talking about UV they need. ahhhhh well, guess I have to get the expensive ones.....

Like a spotlight for your house type, instead of paying double for a "basking lamp"??

There is no cheating on the UV bulb. It is an absolute must. But do shop around first, call places, check online, etc. Some places are ridiculously expensive, others are more reasonable.

Yep a spotlight/ incadescent bulbs work perfectly for the basking lamps. You don't need the fancy "heat bulbs" from the pet store.

the heat bulbs suck a lot of wattage, you can achieve high temps with standard bulbs

my 60w were giving temps of 107 degrees from a foot up...I don't have beardies, but I"m assuming then need higher temps than that, so I figure a 75w should work just fine and you can get 4 of them for 1.77 at walmart

You can get a 24 inch GE bright stick gro and show for cheap, they are uvb. I use them for my crested gecko's and their plants growvery nicely under them

They do not give out the nessecary amount of UV required for dragons. Please do not use these. You need a specific UVA/UVB bulb.
