View Full Version : snake/food ratio?
hello all,
well, I finally got a decent scale. Turns out my corn has been getting meals of one mouse between 30 and 40 grams once per week. She's 233g with an empty tummy. The mice are weighed dry and frozen. This sound about right? Too little?

Is there a reason you needed to know the weight of the food? The reason I ask is because you can usually tell by looking if a feeder is an appropriate size for the snake.. easier than doing math ;) How old is it? Feed something that leaves a nice lump, they say about 1.5x the widest part of the snake, but you can go bigger if your temps are right and the snake can digest without disturbances.
Just curious really. Weighing is a more accurate measure of "how much" your snake is getting. I'm pretty happy with the girth of her prey items. I've heard people say they feed up to 20-30% of their snakes body weight before.

K, my corn isn't near the weight of yours, but, my BRB, the records are:
March 21/04 she weighed 247.5 g and then ate a 60g rat. So that's roughly what 25% ish of her body weight...
She has been eating 60g rats since she was 172g ( roughly 35% of her body weight )
