I was just curious because i really dont know, can uromastyx, mali, get impacted by sand? I keep mine on sand and ive seen all of them on sand. I just noticed this to possibly be a problem during feeding. He likes to make a mess and somtimes sand sticks to the wet veggies..not a lot at all though, but does this pose a problem?
thx

i think it possibly could over a long period of time. if he ingests enough of it, it could i guess.

The biggest contributing factor to impaction is dehydration. Malis are tough cookies, but if it were to become dehydrated, I would expect impaction to be a concern.
Outside of that, I only one species of gecko that I keep on sand and I've never really kept anything else with sand as a substrate. My Uros are kept on coconut fibre.
Just my $0.02 :)

Sorry Bartman, I don't have any pics on the PC of the Uro cages. The set up is pretty simple though. Just a few inches of coconut fibre in the bottom and some hiding/basking places......
I'll try to snap a few pics next time I have the camera out.

We keep all of our uromastyx on Playsand. I sift it really good before putting it in the tank to get rid of any little stones.
We have never had a problem.
