Glad to have this 'cleared up' :) I've always ended up pronouncing it the way it looks, but I've heard enough people say otherwise (even breeders) that it's confusing.

I guess the "real" answer is how they pronounce it in Florida. Maybe Mark (Crimsonking) will fill us in. :)

I say Oh-Key-Tea and Call-You-Brid... ;)

I used to say O-kee-tee, now its the way scotty says it.

...I say Call-a-brid, is that totally off?
Lol, we had this discussion not too long ago, and I'm still confused!

This should help with Colubrid:

I say ''Cul-o-brid''... almost like saying ''color-brid'' but with a short ''o'' and no r... lol.

The biggest thing I can't say is 'rear wheel drive'. I can't say it to save my life... always comes out like 'rheel reer drive' :P

Well, while we're on this subject, I've plucked up courage to ask...

How do you pronounce 'cloaca'???

I'm embarrassed to ever say it, because I feel really, really stupid!
Help?

Brig. :)

I say, and I think that's how my vet said it, :

Clow (like 'low' with a C in front)
ache

Makes you wish there were a snake owners dictionary! Especially for the Latin scientific names.

Hey Tigergenesis, hows the herping in Indy? I may be moving there within the year. Any wild places still left in Indiana?

I might be going to Indiana this August... hehe. Planning on going herping and gold panning. :)

Never really gone out herping. I need and want to as it would be a new experience for me. Between work and volunteering it's hard to find the time. The Hoosier Herp club seems to have outings. I need to go sometime to see what it's like.

I've always wanted to ask, how to pronounce heterozygous?

Thanks:)
Shane

I pronounce it with the accent on the "zy"

het-er-oh-ZY-gus

Might not be correct, though ;)
