Hi everyone, I know Niles are known for there horrible temperaments, and I’ve seen first hand a nice 7 footer who REALLY hated people being around, but I’ve also heard of people saying they've tamed there’s down too the point they are quite docile. What I’m wondering is anyone out there who owns one's personal opinion, is it likely that your Nile will calm down if your willing too raise him with regular handling, or is it literally luck of the draw, some times you just get lucky and they will tame down, let me know what you think,

I remember someone saying that its absolutly luck of the draw. Also that cb's are much more calm. Coud be wrong...

Cb are usually more docile but they will still hiss and spudder and wip there tails. I have a adult male nile that is really tame he took 3 years to get to trust me to the point he doesn't hiss or wipp. Alot of niles are agressive but all it takes is time and alot of bandaids and work but it is possible to tame niles.

just my 2 cents.

Ive dealt with some niles in my time and it seems that alot of work is needed to tame them down. They are very flighty animals when young, then when bigger dont run as much but defend themselves with alot of vigor. TIME is the key and your deligence to keep trying to acclimatize the animal to more interaction with you. But it is a crap shoot too because if it doesnt want you around it will make it that way. Animals are never 100% tame and you must be willing to deal with a large nile that doesnt like people.

This is a 5' Ornate that was as tame as a Leopard Gecko. No lie! She has never tried tp bite or even wiped her tail at me. I picked her up all the time.

V. niloticus does not tame down because you are relaxed with them, it is on their terms when they feel comfortable enough to relax and act aggressively, then they will calm down and can be very docile, but ALWAYS on their terms, NOT yours!! Keep this in mind when you keep them - they are amazing animals never-the-less....

Brandon, nice animal, but also brought up another question, I’ve heard Ornates tend too calm down better then other Niles, any truth too that ??

Not to sure on that I think they all have the same rep to have a bad temperment. But that is not true it is like Mbayless said

Mine is just over a year old now. He is making some progress and has come a long way. He has stopped biting and only whips the tail on occasion. He tolerates handling more and more as time goes on.

It may be too late if he is 7''. Your best bet is to get a baby CB. Anyways, good luck!:)
