View Full Version : I have a question.....

Ok,
If someone said that they or someone they know was touching a gaboon viper, would it be out of line or not my place to ask if the proper handling tools were used and to give my advice on why it would not be a good idea????
Some people really act like as$es when confronted with a simple statement that requires a simple answer...... Some one said something about touching a juvi gaboon viper so I explained how it would not be safe to hook one and to have someone touch it......
It is a bad idea to even use the tailing method on a juvi gaboon...... I guess some people know everything and dont need to be reminded on how to safely handle these animals and they do not like to be told that it is not a good idea to let an inexperianced handler "touch" a hot......
I must have been crazy to voice my concern..... Whats wrong with me????

You are the gaboon guru Gregg you tell em...
I replied. They jumped on you for no reason. At this point I'd be the bigger man if I was you and just say you were concerned and glad he practices good handling and not go to the level of attacking like they are about too.
If they cannot see the common courtesy and general over all concern you have for the hot hobby, that's their problem.

I do not know what is with that place....... I am pretty much done there....... I look at it like this, they will be missing out on an a$sload of info I normally love to share with people..... There are way too many egos out there and mostly a bunch of followers..... I am actually suprized that someone with such a good rep and knowledge for these animals would have their name attached to that forum....... It can put a bad taste in peoples mouths.....
Earthmover, your statement is true enough...... I would not tail all of my gaboons...... That would be epecially true for neonates.... Your hand is very close to the head of a baby....... With adults there is much less chance of a misshap....... I am sure even you can agree on that....... By the way, your way of handling is indeed safer and the ideal way to handle hots....... If you would have said what you said to me at the place I am talking about, they would jump all over you too......

I was not going to get involved in this as it is futile at this point. However as two moderators are very involved in what is by NO MEANS fruitful gain yet what is what they themselves have called trolling I looked up some definitions. It is from my understanding the role of a Moderator to try and solve problems. Instead this appears to be a pack attack to protect {friends} and their ego. As a general rule if a person was to act in a manner such as insulting a member or outright attacking them in a defaming manner because of opinion differences it is the role of a moderator to step in and try to restore order to the situation. Unfortunately in this case we have a moderator as one of the involved parties. Due to this nature it should then fall on the site administer to step in to restore order. Unfortunately in this case the site administers has chosen to take a side and in his own post insultingly laughs at the other party.
These actions from my interpitation were unwarranted and based most likely on past actions and bad blood from another thread. Yet after apologies were given and persons acknowledged childish behavior again continues to a new thread from the same parties. It is my opinion that despite attempts to be civil unless you are in this unfortunate {click} nothing you will say will be given credence and all attempts to have fruitful, Helpful and knowledgeable contributions it will not occur. The best thing too do is accept this fact and part ways.
Like I said awhile ago, that forum is really a pack of a--holes. It's a monerators club, and that is one of the many reasons why I left. The funny thing is the monderator in question is on another forum and he has a very different attitude. Anytime someone has questioned one of those 2, the other jumps in to help. I can understand, they have to work hard to keep their god like status.
To be fair though, one of the monderators really does stay out of things, and is pleasant to people and seems like a humble and friendly guy.

Earthmover,
unreal agility is an understatement....LOL..... I have seen babies do backflips...... Actually a couple of babies I got from Joe are hell spawn....LOL..... How are your little guys doing anyway???? I am sure they are growing like weeds..... My babies are being cared for at my cousins at this time as I ran out of room at my place to hold them....... They are under my care but kept at another house...... I made another attempt at breeding my male gaboon to my female puff...... They did copulate a few times so I hope I get something this time....... I had to get the male out before the female puff got too aggressive....... Anyway, thanks for the kind words my friend...... I hope everything is going good for you.... And thanks to everyone else for their support.....

[ Edited out comment about moderator on other forum]
If they're going to be a moderator they should act the part. If they want to act militant and biased they should just stick to mouthing off without abusing the position.
Gregg made a good point and then they all freak out.
If I had a gaboon, mamba or anything else that venomous I wouldn't take the risk of letting anyone else touch it. If it turns on me and I die, that's my responsibility. If someone trusts ME to keep them safe while they touch it, and it maims or kills them, I'm responsible. So why don't they get that? It's a valid concern.

Gregg, it sucks that there are people that will get offended and slam you when confronted with questions about their reasoning, or differences of opinion. I have had my own differences with individuals over issues like the giant pythons, snake bites and venomoids, and often you have to agree to disagree.
It is difficult to argue with intelligent people who are receptive to learning and teaching, but arguing with an idiot can be more challenging. If they beleive they know their stuff, and it is good enough for them, so be it. We both know its not IF you are going to get tagged, but WHEN, and HOW BAD.
Dont even try to see things from their point of view, I think you would have difficulty getting your head that far up your butt.
Just for good measure they deleated your last response, Greg. Wouldn't want you having the last word or anything...

Thank you TT.
Most of us are on many different forums. One thing that we do have to remember is that a few individuals are not indicative of ALL the members. I have had run-ins with folks from many sites, but at the same time, there are many like minded individuals. Even though other items on other forums may anger us, we have to remember that THIS is not the venue to bash, flame, bi*ch, or degrade another forum. At least not as a public post.
I think Gregg phrased his original post well, keeping it abstract. Most not familiar with the thread in question or the forum in question would answer it objectively. Remember that trolling helps noone. Even if intensions are good, going just to stir trouble and speak on someone's behalf makes it seem as though they are "calling in the troops" or the like. I, for one, feel that if I am being bashed or flamed, only those that truly believe in what I say should respond in my favor. I never want to be accused of "recruiting" supporters. But even if it is unintentional, it can appear that way. *shrug** Too late at night to think. ;)

True, my bad and appologies to the moderators. Got a bit carried away.

My appologise as well.
I do think this thread can be turned to a learning experiance and remind us of how we should treat new members.
So instead of letting it die or lock it How about making a bad thing in to a good one. Such as Ideas on how we should represent ourselves to a new member in welcoming them instead of jumping down their throat for something a person would personally not do. There are many hot keepers who will not post because they do not want to be lumped as bad or dangerous handling skills. We are limiting our pool by not showing them respect or by comming off as our way or no way. I respect the moderators here greatly and the other members veiws. Should this thread die or can it be a great learning tool for the rest of us?

I learned a few things these last couple of days...... You really can not share your experiance and knowledge with people who think they already know everything....... Some people are very touchy and do not deal well with someone telling them they are doing the wrong or improper thing...... Some people with any type of power like to abuse it whenever possible...... And that us, as experianced and talented hot keepers should set a good example for eachother and anyone wanting to keep venomous snakes.......
I just hate when someone tries to bring me down and make me look foolish to make themselves look better for the crowed....... All I know is that the people that were on my side are the only people that really count...... I would also like to thank MsTT for seeing through all the BS and trying to make them understand an experianced hot keepers point......
It is also pretty funny how they leave all the post up that "discredit" me but as soon as I discredited someone else they deleted it....... They are obviously affraid of something.....
