Myself and Jordan found three of these guys today in Mississauga. There is a very small strip of wooded area that Jeff H. had said these sally's could be found. Sure enough within 20 minutes we found a few. These salamanders were quite large and looked more like jeffersonianum than any others I have seen. Of course only DNA analysis could tell us exactly what they are.

We also saw a few dozen red-backed salamanders. Including a couple "lead" phase. Again, these salamanders were larger than average.

I think Jordan is going to post pictures later....?

Wish I was home, My Dad went our salamander spot and had 11 newts, 29 jeffersons salamanders, and 112 spotted salamanders that he counted last night.

Your not kidding, I think the most I ever found was maybe a dozen ot two of each species at a time. I'd like to see the pictures to see if theres much colour variation between the Jeffersons I have found.

I know a spot where you can find 200+ Blue spots in a day.

This strip of forrest where we found the Jeff's wasn't very big so I doubt that there's a huge population there.

Hey! Just got back from the same place. Found four Jefferson's and six red-backs (including two lead-backs) in 45 minutes. Neat little place in the middle of urban sprawl!

Cool! I was hoping to find a brown snake. I was there last June. Found brown and garter snakes, and red-backs but no Jeffies. I'm glad I didn't find all that many red-backs. Frankly, I'm kind of sick of them, from finding them by the hundreds in Oakville Creek.

I consider them to be a pest species at Oakville creek. Sort of the cane toad of Oakville!

I wonder if red-backs are edible.... Stew, anyone? LOL. I'll post some pics of my Jefferson's just as soon as the computer with Photoshop is back up and running.
