View Full Version : Shipping Screw Up
Well the monitor I had comming was accidentally shipped to Toronto. The little guy was over 9 days in transit too long and arrived this morning dead. It's really up setting and I'm really pissed with the shipping company. The package was clearly addressed and I'm not sure how it ended up in Toronto. It was a beautiful little lizard. I'll have to wait for eggs to hatch till I get another one.

I'm sorry to hear that. That is the worst thing that could happen while shipping. :(
Is the shipping company taking any responsibility?

Dude...I would call that shipping company and raise holy hell!!!!
I would threaten to sue them if they do not fully compensate you for your loss. Not only the money that it cost for the animal and shipping, but your "emotional distress" after your animal arrived dead. Also, the animal suffering a stressful death...due to their negligence. I would go the distance with this one if I were you.

since you guys are talking about shipping i might as well add some to it. ive ordered a common water monitor(varanus salvator) from a local breeder to pair up with the monitor my cousin gave me and its taking forever for it to get shipped here. is it really that hard to obtain a common water monitor here in lower mainland?
sorry to hear about your monitor kevyn hope you get better luck on your next monitor
This type of incident has happened 2 times in few weeks to my one friend by the same company, one package was lost for a week and a half, one is lost (undetermined) as of yesterday. The 2nd package he called the company 2 hours after pick up, they said the package is on 2 day delivery not overnight by 10:30 am, like the box clearly states on a big sticker. It was still on the sort line at the facility with the correct label etc yet on the wrong sort line and the wrong scan set up by the truck driver, yet its too difficult to pick the package up and walk 10 feet to set it down on the air delivery line where it belongs without messing the process up completley and being lost to what their doing. This proves that like so many stores the employees are only qualified to pick the item up and scan it then put it in the bag, if the scan is incorrect they are lost and have no idea what to do, a memeber of management is called to fix everything, because their employees cannot operate a cash register, and are not aloud to.

You can't legally ship reptiles by ground in Canada, and no courier will knowingly accept live reptiles. All transport must be by plane only.
In the states some couriers do it, and it's up to the route co-ordinator but in general ground couriers wont knowingly accept live animals either. In most cases live herps are being sent covertly, and doing so puts the animals at risk, and makes you liable , not them. As well as the loss of the animal, in this case a CITES listed species, if they get discovered after not being fully disclosed, you might have the SPCA all over you.
Ground couriers are not equipped with properly heated or cooled vehicles and warehouses, and should not be used for live freight.
