For me anyway! I had never seen a copperhead in Florida 'till my son Russ flipped this guy. It made my year so far!

Congrats on the find. You should come to east Texas you would be sick of them before you left.- Scott

Scott, I was in east TX. (the very little town of Waskom), and you're right. They are abundant there. I really hated seeing the locals intentionally skidding their tires on snakes "to make sure they're dead" back then. I believe I saw more copperheads than just about any other snake. What makes my finds significant is that they are only found in northern FL. and I had specifically set out to photograph one (or in this case 2) for my "Snakes of FL." album.

That is pretty rare. I've been in Florida for almost 8 years now and have never seen a copperhead. Nice find!!!

Beautiful pics. I'm in Texas also. I use to go out 4 or 5 nights a week herping when I was in college (Texas A&M) I could catch at least 2 or 3 a night. It got to where I would just move them out of the road and not even bother catching them.

How far north did you find it? I'm not asking for an exact location....just an approx.

you must have been North of route 20 but south of I10...I bet you got your fair share of mosquito bites in the process...Great find...I havent found one in 16 years here, but I dont spend enough time in that area.
Still, I found a manatee in Okaloosa county this year, so why not a copperhead south of route 20?

If ever, we're talking very big if here, if ever I was going to keep a hot that would be the one.
Great shots! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,

Agree with Boidkeeper. I have always loved the look of Copperheads and if I was keeping a hot, that species would be it. I love the variations they have as well. That's a beauty.
