I'm just curious how most people house their kings? My new little Mex Black King is currently in a quarantine rubbermaid tub equivalent in size to a 10 gallon. At the end of quarantine I planned on putting him in my rack setup. But lately I've been toying with the idea of putting him in a display cage. However, I'm not sure if it would be worth it - right now he hides most of the time under the paper towels. I bought the rack with the intent of housing burrowing species in it - since a display cage is mostly wasted on them and they feel more secure this way.

Just curious how other people house their kings....

Thanks for sharing.

We have all our kings in large rubbermaids. I DID have our Mexican Black King in a display tank for quite awhile though. But since he is pretty big he needs a big tank and it just got impossible to clean out for me if I didn't have help so I switched him to rubbermaid too and haven't looked back.

One isnt really better than the other when it comes to kings im my opinion just be ready to haul the tank around for full cleanings.

I simply keep my Cali Kings in Sterilite racks. I believe they are 28 quart tubs, pretty standard tubs for colubrids. I recently placed my AZ Mountain King in a display case with my AZ Black, but spends most his time hidden amongst the cracks like they do naturally. But tis a nice display none the less.

When I set up "displays", they tend to have a lot of substrate and areas to conceal and hide the residents of them. These two snakes happen to not be rather shy as well, one reason I have decided they should be shown off a bit nicely. Both have got a nice timing in which they venture out from the den (the nice hide) and cruise around. I can set my watch to the rattler to when he is active. They both have been down to what they would do naturally, pretty cool to see some natural behaviors in captivity like so. In the future I will be keeping more "locale" set-ups like this, kinda interesting to say the least.

Marisa, how big is your Mex Black King? Just curious what size tub you moved him to?

He is about 40 inches now. The dimensions of his tub are 34 long, 16-17 inches deep and 6 1/2 inches high. He uses all the space. I can't really find a bigger tub but if he grows anymore I'll be making some custom enclosures for all my colubrids and he will get one. :)

one display is in a 50 gallen tank and the other 3 are in large totes. they work well because they don't shatter if accendently dropped while cleaning. i used to but mine in tanks but it's expensive and you can't put air holes in. the down side is when you want to view your snake you have to open the lid or look at a blur. the larger rep. are in custem made. i use undertank heaters.

I'm going to start putting plexiglass fronts on my bigger totes. They look pretty good if you do it right.
