Hey everyone I've been reading up on chameleons(veilds and panthers) lately and don't really understand how you are supposed to be able to create the ideal environment. I keep my room pretty warm(with base boards) around 75 but because of that the humidity is low. With an all screen cage it would be virtually impossible to keep any amount of humidity. Even with 3 daily mistings, plants and a dripper I doubt it could even get to 50 for very long after mistings. Also, if I were to have an all screen enclosure with heat lamps for heat the only area that would be warm would be the basking spot and immediate area around it. I was just wondering what people do to get around these problems. Especially in canada where our furnaces are running for most of the year. What about peg board? Would that give enough air flow? I think it would help hold in heat and humidity. Anyway just bored and curious to what all you cham owners do.

regarding your previouse post.
If you are worried about keeping up humiddity i would sudjest covering the back and half of the sides of your enclosure. This will leav the top front and half of the sides still open to provide a good air flow. i have a huge set up and i can keep it at 80 percent no problem with four mistings aday and the dripper wont really don anything for humidity anyways. As for the heat light. You really need to learn more about reptiles needs. The heat lights are designed to heat only one small area called a basking spot. You dont want your whole set up to be the same temp. Reptiles are cold blooded and need to thermo regualte there body temp. By moving back and forth from hot spots under the light to anouther part of the cage the heat light does not reach to cool down. Without thermo regulation your reptiles will be slowly burned to death.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough.
I understand how reptiles thermoregulate. I dont understand how you are supposed to heat a 3x2x2 screen cage to 80 at the cool end without heating your entire room.

heating pretty simly depends on the wattage of your lamp, higher watts the higher the temp, if its to hot in your room, lower the temperture in the hosue or get a lower wattage, as for humdity, some dont might room temperature i find, and is perfect if you mist 3 times a day. I spray hot warm, when the mist comes out its warm, which increases the humdity, also live plants keep it possible, i put a plastic bag behind the cage. I live in canada and my furence runs yearly i believe but i have no problems, i use a 60 watt, room temp is around 20-23 degree C. Thats whats keep my chameleon alive, and he seems happy, i hope lol

and also, you can get a humidifier or some sort of programable misting system and use them on top of misting to keep the humidity high
