They thought he was having a seizure so didn't treat for envenomation in time.

Thats really unfortunate.....but at least the snakes are being properly taken cared by being given to a zoo.

There's no guarantees that an animal will be treated well just because they go to a zoo. There's some places with pretty poor conditions out there.

Well I have only visited the San Diego Zoo...and my zoo the Pittsburgh Zoo.

I guess I'm use to nice setups :/

Lol never heard of it but they have a very very nice zoo! Very cool reptile exhibits as well! Its a really neat wrap around thing....a giant circle of enclosures!

Thailand zoos can be pretty nasty. A friend came home with a picture of a reticulated python that was kept on a leash in his outdoor cage. The leash started to dig into the snake, and the guy at the zoo poked it to prove it was alive.

Same story from AOL News (http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20040322104809990002)

BANGKOK, Thailand (March 22) - A man who set a world record by spending 7 days locked up with poisonous snakes has died after a bite from a deadly mamba, a hospital reported on Monday.

Then goes to say:

Wipha said Boonreung's relatives told her that Boonreung was showing villagers a new cobra when he was bitten. He took herbal medicine and a shot of whiskey, and continued with the show until he collapsed, the doctor said.
