View Full Version : Copulation!!! And regurgitation. :(

Well, I'll start with the good news.

Last night, after 3 months of brumation, my Sinaloan Milks were put together, and the male started doing the mating dance right away. As I write this, they are vigrously copulating. This is a proven pair, so I have very high hopes for this project. :D

In a rather unexpected move, on a whim, I put my Miami phase girl in with the new adult male Charcoal corn that I got from Mark IsBell.... wouldn't ya know it.... he starts agressively breeding her within 5 minutes!!! Neither of them have even been cooled. You gotta love corns and their ability to know the season even without brumation. :) So, I'll have normals het charcoal. Most will likely be holdbacks, but you never know.

So this is very exciting news for me!!! First ever breeding season, and some pretty good luck so far. Except of course, for my kings.
:(

The male albino king had a huge meal out of brumation - BIG mistake on my part. Though he did digest most of it, I cam home last night to a regurge. I now sympathise with anyone who has been through this - there is nothing on EARTH that smells this foul!! It was utterly overpowering!

So before I put him in with my "Menedota-type" female, I want to make sure he has a meal that he can keep down. The female seems to be doing great, so I hope she'll be receptive. Because she's highly melanistic, the babies that look like her will be het blizzard. Again, probably a lot of holdbacks from that clutch. I'm sure the male will be ok too - he's a machine. I'll give him a week and see if he'll take and keep down a smaller meal.

I have a couple of potential other projects on the go, but nothing witnessed so far. More details on those projects if and when there is anything to report, but I don't want to jinx it for now. :)

Congrats on the breedings - very exciting. Also congrats on getting a charcoal corn - the anery B's are very uncommon out here.

Good luck with your cal kings - a regurge certainly is unforgettable especially when it is a big one that has had a few days to digest!. I am sure the male will recover with no ill effects. My males are not even interested in food right now - too many great scents floating around. Best of luck with the blizzard project,

Thanks Mary. :) I'm not counting the snakes before they hatch, but it's pretty exciting nonetheless.

Have you got any pairs doing the deed right now?

Not yet - couple female corns are blue and I usually let them get a few meals and a shed in before putting the boys with them. Should be soon though.

I am in no rush with the hondurans - many people don't breed them til after the second post brumation shed and only one of my girls has shed the first time so far. With my cal kings, I just want my female full enough that she doesn't consider the male to be a meal - he is still a lot smaller than she is!

Spring really is in the air though - will be lots of activity in the next couple weeks. I agree - it is pretty exciting,

Cool on the corns and kings. Sorry to hear about the regurge. Luckily snakes rebound from that quite well.

Just to correct you. Snow/Blizzards kings are albino patternless kings, ususally nitidas which are almost as black as mexican blacks and lack pattern. Your mendota type king crossed with an albino and F2'd would produce some real nice high pink albinos, which are really sweet!

Here's a link on just this topic.

Tons of luck on the sini's! Post some pics of your breeders. Adult sini's are really impressive. All tri-colours are pretty impressive when full grown. Wish I hadn't sold off my adult pueblans now.
