Growing human populations in their native habitat causes increasing competition for economic resources. Land is consumed to house growing human populations. Land previously considered sacred is cleared, burned, mined or logged to exploit natural
resource for its current economic value. Chameleon populations are ultra-sensitive to the problems associated with habitat loss.
Due to their slow-moving nature, and their inability to relocate quickly, chameleons have evolved in small, often isolated pockets. To these small, isolated populations, habitat loss can prove to be disastrous. Chameleons are exploited by the locals in their native habitat, and by foreigners. Locally, they are sold live to be used for a variety of purposes. Some natives believe that throwing a live chameleon into a fire will bring them good luck. Chameleon parts are sometimes sold to be used in magic rituals. Growing demand by tourists for chameleon body parts (which are sold a souvenirs) adds yet another demand for chameleons in the local markets (Fry, 1997).

yeah, that is really sad and messed up. i cant understand why people would want to do those things. if those people just put themselves in the chameleons situation, then they would change their minds. how would they like it if their homes were being destroyed and they were being thrown into fires? how would they like it if they were killed and their body parts were sold to tourists?

Hey I’m completely against the whole selling destruction of habitat and even the selling of "lucky" parts although as someone mentioned even our society does it too rabbits as well as furs, too the locals there they seem no more important then rabbits would be too some people around here. As for eating dogs, that’s life, tons of different species are slaughtered for food,
kidchameleon,
On a side note look up some info on the wars in the Congo/Kenya, last year at this time I was reading articles about the U.N. being petitioned step in, because rival rebel armies were wiping out tribes of pigmy’s, burning there villages, raping there woman, and slaughtering them as meat, due too an ancient ledged that stated they were not truly human, and one gained mystical powers when heading into battle of they ate the flesh of a pygmy, there for a time were even roomers of some of this meat making it too the black market, this isn’t a joke either it was really happening almost exactly 1 year ago. So animals aren’t the only ones us humans are wiping out, not that I’m condoning any of it, just adding another horrid fact out there about what some of the worlds like.

Devon well im not saying it doesnt happen to people, im just saying i think that the people that are doing these things should imagine themselves in their victim's position, and maybe they would look at it differently and change there mind
Its reasons exactly like that that contribute to me sometimes being less respectful of other peoples cultures. Stupidity is what it is, in now way, shape, or form does cracking open a live monkeys skull and eating its brain give you "immortality" or cleansing your soul.
Agh...bugs me to say the least

kidchameleon,
I knew what you meant, lol, I just had too through that twisted bit of information into the convo, and I agree people need too think before acting allot of the time. I don’t see why any killing, of man or beast, unless for food, is necessary, its senseless and barbaric, but that’s just my opinion.

Basic biology dictates that the kitten would die in that situation. They do not conform to their surroundings as a goldfish does.
The site has been around for years. I think it's great :) It's always good for shocking the gullible.
And since my kitten will climb into anything with a hole large enough to accept her head she could easily pose for one of those pictures of her own volition :)

this kind of stuff will always go on in htis world there is no use getting so upset over it i know its sad but really there is nothing we can do. These people that burn them arent really harming there population unless they do this for like a daily ritual or something. This world is messed up and there is nothing we can really do about it. Except help chams buy having people who know what they are doing help breed and conserve all the endangered species on our planet.
