Hello All,

I've recently had many e-mails asking me to explain the genetic inheritance from breeding 50% Het adults that I had produced a few years back because hatchlings had been advertized as 50% Hets themselves, misleading and totaly wrong in my book. I will not name anyone so please don't ask....

The first thing to understand is how genes are inherited;

Albino in this case

Albino X Albino = Homozygous Albino (They are all Albino)
Albino X Het-Albino = 1/2 Albino & 1/2 100% Het-Albino
Albino X Normal = All 100% Het-Albino
Het-Albino X Het-Albino = 1/4 Albino & 3/4 possible Het-Albino (66% possible Het)
Het-Albino X Normal = 1/2 Het-Albino & 1/2 normal (50% posssible Het-Albino)

What is also important to understand is the possibility of genetic inheritance. The 50% and 66% only means a probability of inheritance.

With that said, a 50% Het bred to a normal would yield 25% hets or 1 out of 4 hatchling would also possibly be Het. (A 50% Het either is actualy 100% Het or just normal, only confirmed once test breeding has been done)

BUYER BEWARE PEOPLE! Make sure to question the genetic inheritance of the parent animals when purchasing possible Hets, if in doubt, use the genetic wizard in this link

Great post Marc and a good reminder to all to question and to make sure they trust the source when they buy - especially with possible hets,
