TIP #1: Try not to get TOO addicted :D

A good beginner t would be an old world because they are not real agressive but have uracaitng hairs. I would suggest a Mexican red knee or a texas blond t. You need a sponge in your water dish to keep crickets from drowning and fowling the water. Do not get down and look eye to eye unless you want nightmares for weeks haha. You can cage a lot of species of T in 10 gallon or smaller terrariums. Discluding birdeaters and baboons.

I think creepycrawlie meant new world instead of old world. Check out arachnomania.net pics. Everything is color coded even I understood it.

Yup, New World species have the urticating hairs. The New World is the Western hemisphere (North and South America).

Just get a Rosie, very calm demeanors. Mine has never reared up or flicked hairs at me, and she is about 5.5 inches long.

Actually, I would pick a Grammostola aureostriata (Chaco) or a Eupalaestrus campestratus (Pink zebra beauty) over a G. rosea for a beginner. Of course, my two roseas are psychos!
You need a sponge in your water dish to keep crickets from drowning and fowling the water.
This actually is a very bad practice to do, sponges are a haven breeding ground for bacteria and this can affect your tarantula.
If you want to help keep the crickets from drowning in the water, just add a few rocks or something of the sort that can be cleaned well and isn't too porous.
I personally don't use any sponges in any of my tarantula's enclosures. I don't use anything actually, I don't find enough crickets in the water dishes to warrant using some.
