The Komodos were awesome at the TO Zoo today! At first only the male was where we could see him, then when we came back he was busy mounting a female. It was soooooo great!

Hey, is it true that komodo dragons like chameleons and turtles, will stay small if you keep them in a small tank?? I think I read something like that on here. My fiance and I were wanting to get one and just thought maybe we should do some research on how much we can handle them and what size of tank we should build. Any help would be appreciated, we are only new at this.

Hi um komodo gragons are endangered they WILL grow up to I think ten feet and they cost upwards of twenty grand and that before you get the zoo licence and endangered species licence. In other word for a pair of komodos you are looking at spending a 100 thousand dollars not including the WHOLE basement you would need to keep one let alone two. They also have a very high bacti count in there mouths which is powerfull enough to kill a wild boar in a couple of days. Can you amagine feeding a pair of komodos they would eat like a ffriggin gazel in a month! So unless your rich then start savin.:D

wow, terry_stack you are in the WRONG place to be talking like that. Why would you want to keep an endangered species improperly and contribute nothing to the conservation of the species through breeding programs?

and as far as i know, there isn't a reptile out there taht will grow to the size of its enclosure. And i can GUARANTEE you turtles definately do not.

some people's kids is right!

you honestly want to get a komodo dragon and handle it? youd have to be pretty damn strong and have some HUGE balls to handle one of them. no reptile grows according to the size of its enclosure. dont be planning on getting a komodo dragon anytime soon. theyre endangered and you probably need to own a zoo or have a special license to keep one of them.

And no turtles and chameleons do not stay the size of their tank.....neither is a Komodo...he will eventually break the damn cage.

I think you should go to the store and buy a pet rock or something first...then get a live animal:)

You need to talk to the ambasitor of indonesia and like I said you need atleast two licences that I know of to handle one. Oh and by the way Terry a komodo would kill and eat you in about an hour unles you got to the hospital and went on STRONG anti biotics. the reason for this is they keep bit of there prey in there mouth and it rots creating a DEADLY strand of bacteria.
Matt
PS its not all kids im only 14:D

Matt theres no reason to tell her what you WOULD need if its even possible to get one.....what if he/she did get ahold of one.....christ our herp keepin days would be screwed.

I'm not trying to be rude I'm just sayin how I feel....may be harsh but oh well:)

Yes I sujest keting a komodo it is VERY smart I would LOVE to have a lizard the could KILL me like I was a mouse:p ;) Wasnt tellin her to get one and unless she talked to the ambasador of indeniesia there is no way of getting one legally. the Toronto zoo even needs permision to sell the CB babies that they produced. even if she tried there is a 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999% that she would not be able to get one.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls....as the old saying goes "there's one born every minute". I find it terrible amusing that most of you can not recognize a joke when you read one. The whole post was done in jest to someone making comments that turtles and lizards only grow to the size of their surroundings. I have been herping for over thirty years and have been around wild animals(lions, tigers and bears,oh my) all my life. It's amazing how quick most people are to criticize others, if you would have taken the time to think about it who in their right mind would think they could handle a komodo? Next time I try to post a pun I'll remember who will be reading it. Take a downer.
P.S. I'm a him not a her!!
P.S. Sunrunner you not so gullible:)

Would you people shut your pointless chitter chatter? A lovely thread that was meant to show how beautiful the Komodos are... It's a wonderful animal to see in person. But now you have spoiled the thread with your childish behaviour. None of you will ever own a Komodo so just put a cork in it please.
