Man treated after attempting to nail himself to cross
Associated Press
HARTLAND — A Hartland man was treated at a Pittsfield hospital after he nailed himself to a cross. The 23-year-old man apparently was trying to commit suicide Thursday evening in his living room, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Somerset County Sheriff Barry DeLong said Monday that no charges will be filed. "There is no crime here," he said.
Police said the man appeared delusional and told them he had been "seeing pictures of God on the computer." He told them he had not seen the hit movie "The Passion of the Christ," which depicts the Crucifixion of Jesus.
Lt. Pierre Boucher said the man took two pieces of wood, nailed them together in the form of a cross and placed them on the floor. He attached a suicide sign to the wood and then proceeded to nail one of his hands to the makeshift cross using a 14-penny nail and a hammer.
"When he realized that he was unable to nail his other hand to the board, he called 911," Boucher said.
It was unclear whether the man was seeking assistance for his injury or help in nailing down his other hand.
Hartland Fire Department members responded, said Boucher, and cut off the wood while it was still attached to the man's hand. The wood and the victim were taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital, where the nail was removed.
Boucher said he did not know whether the man received further treatment.

LOL, can you imagine what a bummer it must have been for him when he realized he could only do the one hand...? Didn't think this out too much did he...?

Well at least he had NOT seen Passion of the Christ.I would not want anyone to have anything bad to say about such a GREAT movie!

That's some method of suicide... I wonder if he's read up on how long it takes to die by crusifixion, you know, without Romans stabbing you in the ribs and throwing rocks at you or the desert sun drying you out and huge buzzards hacking away at your rotting flesh.
I think this case makes a strong argument for euthanasia, this guy's too stupid to kill himself properly so it's only fair that we should support his choice to end his own life... Now where is my nail gun?

If not euthanasia, I hope he is at least sterilized so he can't reproduce.

Humans can be so freaking stupid sometimes...it almost makes me wish i was a monkey or a bird or something, anything but human.
That guy seriously needs to be put out of his own misery.

Here is my issue here......
If a guy attempts suicide after watching "Passion of the Christ" and reading the bible.... people just think he is crazy and that is that.
But if someone attempts suicide after playing a violent video game or watching a movie... or listening to heavy metal... people freak out and want to ban the stuff because of its apparent "influence"
Nobody ever comes out and says religious things should be banned when someone emulates them amidst insanity... so why do people go ape over things when they involve music or video games..... Double standard maybe??????
I think Chris Rock said it best...
"Whatever happened to crazy?"
I think people will do crazy things regardless of the media they are exposed to... whether it be the bible, video games, or music.
It doesn't make a difference. If sesame street was the only thing available for anyone to watch, they would say that oscar the grouch told them to kill somebody.

People are all nuts in their own way, some are more extreme than others. I guess the reason I am a little insane is I only had 2 friends while growing up in a small town. They were both imaginary, and they would only play with each other.

Well said, i totally agree with you.
It's funny how this whole thing works, people usually complain about metal and how violent it is, but at the same time they fail to see how bloody and visceral religion can be, just look at the bible itself, 30% of that book is based on murder, disease and violence, the symbol of Jesus Christ itself nailed to a cross is an extreme example of it.
I've heard of parents prohibiting their children to play a violent video game or watching a violent cartoon because of sex and violence, but at the same time, they have a half naked man nailed to a cross, bloody and cut up sitting in their living rooms.
Kinda weird how SOME people's perception gets difused and twisted when religion gets involved, i am 100% sure that if that man was caught nailed to that cross wearing a Marilyn Manson shirt this whole thing would be going Bananas and Manson himself would be covered in law suits by the end of the week.
I don't think it should be that way...just my .02 cents.
