View Full Version : Suggestions for 1st scorp

I am looking into getting my 1st scorpion within the next few weeks, but havn't been able to decide on a species. I have 2 T's, a greenbottle blue and a pink-toe( Not sure if that experience helps as far as scorpions go). I have a 10gal. tank already and was thinking about putting 2 emperors in there( not really sure if that is enough room). Do Emps. tend to fight or cannibalize when put together? Any suggestions and answers would be great!!

Emporers can live in colonies not sure about the amount of space needed, but I think 5 gallons each would be sufficient.

Emps can live communally. 5 gallons of space each is the reccommended size so for two emps, a ten gallon tank would be perfect. Be sure to keep the humidity up though. I have a really hard time keeping it up and so what I did was I put 1.5" of gravel on the bottom of the enclosure with 4 inches of the substrate over it. This way, you can just pour a bunch of water in. The water will fill up the spaces in between the gravel and will keep the humidity up longer. Be sure to rinse the gravel really well before putting it int he enclosure though. Rounded, colourless, aquarium gravel works the best because the colour wont bleed and it can't hurt your scorp. That's probably the best tip I can give since humidity is really a pain in the butt to me..

Yep...Emperors are a great species of Scorpion to own. They are very common at shows (at least the ones I go to.) I never looked at the price though...but I'm sure its cheap. Now as far as if they're CB or WC I have no idea.

But good luck with whatever you go for:) I wish I could get a Scorpion!

I definitely would say an Emperor Scorpion would make a great one to start with. Mine is quite the little sweetheart, and when I handle him, I don't even get so much as a pinch from him. As everyone else has mentioned, they can live communally, and be sure to keep the humidity up with this species. Good luck with your future scorpion, they make very neat pets! :)
