Full time slacker which allows time to buy, sell, trade & breed snakes (amongst other things). Did 12 straight years in the patch to get into the Slacker position. I worked Geophysical Exploration (the initial rape of nature or "Seismic") & helped keep Rig Pigs (like HetForHuman) "digging" LOL The key to success in the Patch is not to piss it all away (can be quite difficult eh Tim) & to max out RSPs every year so you get the big income tax return. I for one had major problems with 40% of all my income going to the federal govt. (Da Bastards) so now I pay them nothing (in comparison anyhow) LOL Mark

Vanan and I work as a cook/waitress team right now. Back in BC, Vanan worked for the SPCA as an animal control officer, and I was a full time student. I plan to get back to school soon and finish my degree (BSc).

I feel for us service industry folk. People suck. I can't wait to tell off the next a-hole to pour his own damn coffee. As a side benefit, Vanan's turned out to be a darn good cook!

As for Rig Pigs, that totally cracked me up Mark. I also do housekeeping and man, that's EXACTLY the term. RIG PIG!! Uck!!

Interesting the varied jobs we all have. Seems so mundane to work. Why can't we all be slackers like Mark IsBell. Actually, if I could stay in University my whole life, I would. The pursuit of knowledge. Aaah!

Well it doesn't matter, whatever we do for a living, as long as it pays for rodent bills and new snakes, it's a good life!

Currently a training curriculum designer for Verizon telecommunications. Good pay, good benefits - high stress though and often looong hours. I do enjoy the fact that I get to keep learning (have to learn the subject matter to design the training).

I started out with Verizon as a call center representative- over half the employees in my center were on some anti depressant or other and the stress of call after call with no off line time was most of the reason.

I feel for the service people out there! I waited tables, bartended and managed restaurants for 15 years. Worked crazy hours (my usual shift was 7pm to 7am) at an all night diner. I still have nightmares about it! I think I waited on or served every freak of nature that came through town. Got to be really good friends with the local cops because I called them every weekend to arrest someone for drunken stupidity (usually assault on another customer or one of the staff). Of course on my days off- what did I do but spend my tips in everyone else's bars...

It did seem as though you were taking a shot at that profession in a negative way. I'm sure if someone who was a plumber read that, they may have been offended. I can understand his responses, just because it isn't your thing, doesn't mean its not someone else's. True, money isn't necessarily what makes a job good, but at the same time there isn't anything not to be respected.
